okay so this is mostly here just for me so i can finally have a loop of this because i need those chords to be In My Brain and it's not on the soundtrack and it has been driving me crazy!!
but also (and i am sure this has already been said by many people much better equipped to do so), i wanna scream at you about the dies irae of it all:
that four-beat motif? a famous gregorian chant! mostly known for being a key part of catholic funeral mass (this is simplifying an incredibly rich history, would absolutely recommend going down the research rabbit hole on this one). important for our purposes right now is that it's a known musical motif for the day of wrath, of reckoning, of judgement - and they put it in the video game about attempting to save the people of a dying kingdom built on systematic religious abuse?? incredible move that i fear i will never recover from
anyways this entire game is utterly gut-wrenching but the way it is enveloped in a score that so effectively highlights the inner workings of its world just has me absolutely floored, 10/10 favourite game of all time
