My sweet Amelia Stinson is two years old today! The time has really flown and this is so hard to believe! You’ve grown into such an amazingly intelligent, loving, caring, funny, and beautiful tiny human girl that I love beyond words. I had no idea the capacity of my heart to love until you. (Mom Part 2/2) She used her crystal glasses in the middle of the day. She wore her pretty jewelry and Rolex all the time. Whether going to the beach, grilling outside or directed us as “we cleaned the house”. She, never cleaned. The “we” always became me and my sister. Music was always in our home. People were always there in numbers. Laughing and drinking golden and burgundy drinks out my mothers crystal glasses. I remember ice clinking in the glasses over music and friends laughing. Hit The Road Jack was a staple. I remember loading up in her VW Bug and fitting into the back pocket area (that now would be a crime to ride in) behind the back seat. The beach or bust. My dog and ace, Shamik, was right there in the pocket with me. Time was arrested at the beach. The ocean called me and i answered. I always fell asleep on the way back home. The beach had wrung me out & left me only ready for bed. Those were days where my life felt like music and sand. It is with my adult eyes that I see how hard she worked to carve out these very experience of which I speak. I remember feeling the space and air around people wanting her to dim her light. To hush it up. I too remember her never doing it. Again, these adult eyes I now have, see her in such a high and lifted way. It takes an awful lot of energy to keep being you when the world is trying to break you and tell you to conform. It’s like the world needs what you have, but it gets mad that it comes in the form that you bring it. It takes balls to be yourself in the face of this. My mother has balls as big as planets. She’s a beautiful magnificent being. I am honoured to have come from her. I am honoured to be her daughter. Doris Jean. DJ. I love you so. This is a photo my mom and her sister. Auntie Barbara is on the left, my mom is in the right. Auntie Barbara is in heaven now. Oh how I loved her too. She was something fierce as well. She did. Not. Play. But like the Catcher in The Rye, she’d catch me every time. My aunts mothered and raised me as well. It took a village. I love the village that raised me.
