Ruby Dixon Commissioned me again 🥹. Asha and Hemalo with little Shema. I thought it would be fun having hemalo showing her a carved horse. Plus, I absolutely love horses <3 Couldn't miss the chance to draw them.

I really love to draw these slice of life images. In my head, Tiffany gifted the horse toy (which she made) and little Shema is mesmerized by the strange animal that looks very similar to a Dvisti. Done with PS.

I did this for MODIPHIUS for their 2e Star Trek Corebook.

I had so much fun painting the asteroid field and the excelsior class ship.

Unfortunately, my credit was messed up and they credited it to another artist (it’s ok, bringing together a book is a real hard task).

I was trying to do this for the @feanorianweek but I wasn’t able to finish it. and then I tried to do a more simplified Maglor (just as I had done with Maedhros). At this point I don’t think I’ll finish it.  Maybe I will, or maybe I won’t.  Looks promising.

I just want to finish it because it’s been long since I painted something as difficult (even more so, using the damned cintiq -which I kinda hate).

My graphic novel, The Black Violin, is due out on May 3th! It’s been a lengthy most complicated road I’ve tread since I started it, but next week I’ll have it on my hands. I’m SO excited I can cry of joy.  Here’s the cover for the first limited printing.  Done with pencil and colored with PS and Cintiq.  This is just the front cover. The illustration shown here actually goes front and back. ^^

After so, but OH SO MANY problems with Cintiqs, I could finally start to finish pending drawings (I need to update you guys on the cintiq issue). Anywaaaaay, these are two OCs of my new comic project as shown on their wedding date (the new comic is not a rom-com, no. But I though it would be cute to draw them when they got married. The comic will feature them almost 20 years after this picture). I’m happy that despite it all, I’ve been able to find a work around to paint on the Cintiq (which is why I bought it on the first place).  Even though it’s a simple drawing I kinda like how it turned out. Painted with PS and Cintiq 22 HD entirely on the computer.

Decided to do a little post about my favorite materials :D 

Sketching: 2mm staedler mechanical pencil, 2mm lead sharpener, 2mm HB leads. Derwent pencils (watercolor and sketching). Non-photoblue Col-Erase (for comic outline). Uni color leads for watercolor sketching (purple) and perspective sketching (Teal) -for this I use a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil. I like techniclick Pentel the most- and Hybrid pentel Japan pen (for storyboards or quick sketches).

Watercolor: for watercolor my absolute favorites are Windsor & Newton Watercolors (artist are shown here) and Schminke half pans (although I prefer the latter). Also, PH Martin’s concentrated watercolors. For brushes: Windsor & Newton Cotman Series (synthetic) and Series 7 (natural hair). My absolute favorite is round #4. As for waterbrushes I prefer holbain (for its larger water deposit). 

As you can see I listed gouache with watercolor. I recently started using it<3 . I’ve been using them for finishing touches  (gouache is an opaque type of watercolor. That is = not transparent). I favor w&N and Schminke gouache. 

For Masking fluid I adore the liquid schminke frisket. White touches are done with the Uni roll pen.  

My watercolor paper of choice: Arches (be it hot pressed or cold pressed / 300gms 100% cotton). I also like Baohong paper (chinese paper).

For colored pencils: Prismacolor premiere and Derwent (there was a time when I used prismacolor premiere exclusively). I know many of you favor Faber Castell, but I do not like them. Sorry! If you don’t like prismacolor, Derwent is a pretty neat brand. I recommend it a lot. Pretty consisted in quality standards. I use their drawing pencil branch for many things.

Inking: I rarely ink (not even comics) but when I do ink I use the following: Pigma micron and copic multiliner. I prefer a series 7 #2 brush for inking. Cuiloa is a mexican ink but oh god! it’s so* worth getting your hands on it. It’s really black and waterproof. All markers are waterproof as well (good for me since I do watercolor).  As for white ink, I like PH Martin’s white ink.

Sketchbooks: I use several depending on what I want to sketch.  Regular sketches are made on the huge one below (the one with the 3 characters). It is a strathmore notebook  (36 x 30 cms). For watercolor I prefer moleskine all the way. Look no further. For storyboard and comic planning, I like Canson sketchbook notebooks. Cheap and they do endure a lot of handling. I use a fixative to prevent pencil from fading out, specially on comic notebooks (although nowadays I use my trusted hybrid pentel pen to do all the storyboards). 

For Digital: I have a wacom 22 HD but before, I used to get by with my trusted intous 3. Now I have a Cintiq and I use it with photoshop mainly. I have Clip Studio but I do prefer photoshop. I use a purchased color wheel (coolorus). Since this is the only feature I do miss when working on photoshop.

Also, I prefer traditional over digital. Most of my comics are done traditionally (perspective also is done traditionally). I only use computer to color them for time saving purposes.

Well I had some time to resume #inking duties for the #inktober2017 . I switched from artline markers to #copicmarkers and the difference is incredible!!! I just popped by to let you know how amazing they are!!!
