this is hands down one of the worst things I ever drew
Tenebrae: You know, I can't tell if you're a genius or just incredibly arrogant.
Skulduggery: Well, on a good day I'm both.
The whole "Tenebrae was the reason Skulduggery is a skeleton" still bothers me, merely because of how it is phrased. The wording suggests that he taught a technique that would be individual to Skulduggery and ensure his soul remained, but how did he get that by Serpine, who would sniff a secret ploy a mile away?
I like to just fix it in my mind by saying the technique had the same effect upon everyone it kills: it ties their consciousness to their mortal body and stops it from re-entering the stream of life/death. So, technically, it is feasible that anyone killed by Seprine's hand could return, and indeed, might be trapped on Earth watching everything happen around them without being able to influence it, and due to a lack of a certain will (and necromancy know how) cannot bind themselves again to their mortal form.
This explanation satisfies me by making sense, retaining Skulduggery's "mystique", and also creating lots of angst if you consider Skulduggery realising Larrikin could still be lingering on Earth, unable to do anything or speak to anyone, to this day.
if you have any spare thoughts about the necromancers and/or Solomon Wreath can I hear them
DO I Ok so you saw the ones in the last ask which is cool, let me see if I can find some more good ones Random ones:
Melancholia doesnt like fruits. She just doesnt and I don't know why I hc it
Craven has an iron deficiency
The necromancers are all very meticulous about being clean and being up to date on vaccinations and things! Being in such a tight space together means if one person gets sick, it travels like the plague to everyone else, so they're taugh from very young in the temple always wash your hands, sanitize, etc etc
Craven is a transman bc I say so
Morwenna Crow and Auron Tenebrae used to be together a long time back, the high priestess and high priest respectively. Eventually Morwenna found she was not happy in the temple or with Tenebrae, and left, this leading through a series of events (that I havent thought about) to her becoming one of the elders.
A fair portion of the necromancers, especially the younger ones during her time as the high priestess sort of looked up to her like a mother figure
Morwenna will not refer to Tenebrae by his last name or by his title, she refuses to give him power over her anymore.
In my fun polyclerics au basically the events of DB either dont happen or they happen w/ different necromancers than mel and craven u get me? anyway fun ones for that;
Solomon's favorite thing is having Quiver and Craven try new things (they are, enamored with his tablet and phone- Quiver is stubborn and wants to figure them out himself, Craven actually asks for help mainly bc he wants to know how to get to "the youtube, the video one" again. Yes he does say the apps like The Youtube, The Instagram, etc. Sol both loves and hates it
Oh! Craven gets into needlework! He's always been able to do it, but gets to be a little more creative and have more supplies when he lives with Sol (solomon cant help it he likes to spoil his boyfs,,,,)
DEFINITE SKULDYGGERY PLEASANT SPOILERS AHEAD (If you’ve read past Death Bringer you’re fine):))
okay i was rereading the whole SP series and:
In TFO when Wreath suggests to Valkyrie that she can use Skulduggerys other head as an Isthamus Anchor to get him back, did Auron Tenebrae give him this idea? Wreath claims it’s his way to get Val to take up Necromancy, and that’s valid. But did Tenebrae, even subliminally, help Wreath come to this conclusion in order to get his little “experiment” back?
Bc i was thinking maybe Wreath’s first meeting with the High Priest about Val being the Death Bringer ofc brings up that she’s locked into Skulduggery’s orbit, even after he’s gone. She’s going to an elemental. Maybe Craven offhandedly says the girl isn’t as smart as they think, she’s basically a mortal- she’s not their Death Bringer. Then Tenny suggests maybe he’s right, she hasn’t even considered using a new Isthamus Anchor to get Skulduggery back, and Wreath asks him to elaborate- then goes to Val with the idea of it pushing her to need more magic to get the job done. RIGHT???? Or maybe that’s too out of character- it’s more like Wreath wonders outright if she will even continue magic without Skulduggery and she needs new motivation, a case to work even though he’s gone. Tenebrae suggests a rescue mission, even goes as far as to give Wreath specifics to give Valkyrie in order to “see the extent of her aptitude for Necromancy”. Bc it’d be weird if he seemed like he just wanted to help get Skul back out of the kindness of his heart.
I NEED TO SPEAK WITH DEREK LANDY🧐
Doodle designs of Cleric Craven and High Priest Tenebrae
so uuhhh whom’s’t here would like to read my newest fic?
it’s about solomon wreath (aaand no one is surprised) but it’s not about porn. it actually has a plot for once. it’s also somewhat dark.
link will be in the notes.
Ok, so the entire ‘Skulduggery is Vile’ thing is stupid and makes no sense (even excluding phase 2), but I think Tenebrae having messed with Nefarian’s red hand to ‘save’ Skulduggery is especially is retconned by it makes no sense he didn’t tell Skul sooner.
1. First of all, when Skul rose from the dead, why did everyone believe that it was his ‘rage’ that brought him back from the dead in a world were fucking NECROMANCERS exist???
2. Second, considering how legendary Skul’s barely-ever-shown rage is meant to be and how it’s common knowledge that Nef’s red right hand is necromancy technique, why did he never go after the necromancers who gave Nef the weapon that killed him so painfully in the first place?
3. Third, this would give the opportunity for Tenebrae to come clean to Skul about tampering with Nef’s red hand in order to get Skul to spare him. Even in a scenario where Skul doesn’t find out who did it on his own, it would make sense for Tenebrae to tell him anyways to either demand or inspire loyalty to the temple/Tenebrae himself in Skul.
On a side-note: Tenebrae promising Skul that becoming the Death Bringer and bringing about the Passage would allow him to reunite with his dead wife and child would have been a way better motive and had made Vile a far more compelling villain than him joining the people that had killed him and his family in the first place bc ‘he’s angry and wants to kill stuff’.That canon motive makes no sense at all as all it does is to paint Skul/Vile as a psychopathic child throwing a tempter tantrum bc someone broke his fav toys aka his wife and child. As a very angry person, let me tell you, anger has a direction. Naturally it would have been aimed at the people he perceived to have harmed him (AKA Nef and the Faceless Church and maybe the necromancers) and not at his friends and allies (AKA the Dead Men and the Sanctuaries).
4. I find it hard to believe Mevolent would trust Vile or even allow him to join without having at least seen his face, which could be fixed by Vile already having used the façade during the war but with a constant face that looks different than Skul’s looked so Mev and Nef could be like ‘this is no one we know, just a necromancer that spend his whole life in the temple, this is why we’ve never seen this dude before’. An illusionary spell would work too. Like, a certain amulet that, when you wear it, changes the way you look with the draw back that it only works as long as no one touches him and feels the skull.
5. Also, Mev trusting a heathen enough to make him his general makes no sense either. I can see him as treating Vile like a dog on a leash bc he is powerful and Mev needs to win a war, but not more than that. I just can’t see an organisation as devout as the Faceless Church allowing someone who is very obviously a heretic/from an opposing religion to hold a high position within their ranks.
6. Unless, maybe, he betrayed his prior religion. Perhaps by telling them that the reason Skul returned from the dead is bc Tenebrae messed with Nef’s hand. Perhaps even bringing Tenebrae along, tied up like a nice little present and with his tongue ripped out so he can’t give away Skul’s true identity since he knows Nef doesn’t use sensitives when he tortures someone out of petty revenge or for fun. It would be a sure way to instantly get on Nef’s good side. And how ironic it would be for Nef out of all people to advocate for Vile in front of Mev.
