Ahh, let's talk about Lessons, aka "(almost) nothing hurts and nobody dies".
Originally, chapter 3 was very, very different. It started with Rukia having dinner with the Shiba family, instead of a party, with rather a lot of banter and teasing - some of it at Kaien's expense.
“Kyou!” Masaki sighs. “Shiba men are so messy.” She slants a look at Rukia and winks. “Ichigo is an exception, of course. He takes after me that way.”
“Hey!” Kaien protests. Karin and Yuzu giggle, and Kūkaku snorts.
“I had to dig through five layers of paperwork to find a transfer form on your desk this morning,” Miyako says flatly.
Rukia laughs. “It’s true, Kaien-dono, you do have a lot of paperwork on your desk.”
“Even Kuchiki is against me!” he laments dramatically, lowering his head to Miyako’s shoulder and wrapping his arms around her, just above the growing curve of her stomach.
I decided that it was too close to the previous chapter, and after some freaking out in the IR basement, swapped in the Okuizome ceremony instead. It also served as a nice opportunity to show the stark contrast between Rukia when she's trying to be a proper noble and avoid disappointing Byakuya, and her real personality when she's not around him.
Similarly, the "confrontation" in Rukia's sickroom originally happened at the Fourth, with Ichigo chasing her spirit ribbon there, terrorizing some unfortunate squad members, and freaking out before Unohana told him to cool it.
I still have plans to write a fourth chapter in this story that addresses the unanswered questions around Masaki and Zangetsu, plus what everyone else thinks of Ichigo and Rukia's wedding, given how scandalously young they are. Will they get hitched without a hitch? Will Zangetsu and Sode no Shirayuki get up to more shenanigans? Will Renji eat his weight in fried chicken to console himself? We'll see what I come up with...
I do know, though, that there will be at least one scene where Byakuya and Kaien face off during the marriage negotiations. 🤭
2. a character whose PoV are you currently exploring
3. how you feel about your current WIP
4. a story idea you haven't written yet
2. Hitsugaya - I've written very little from his perspective, but my newest WIP will be partially from his POV.
3. Which one? (Send help and possibly spelunking tools) Let's go with codename Lighthouse - It's going to be equal parts sweet and silly and kind of dumb. Sea hollows, anyone? Anyway it's making me kick my feet just thinking about it.
4. I plotted out a caper fic back in 2022 loosely based on BBS' desert society. It features Ichigo as the mage and Rukia as the righteous thief teaming up to steal a mysterious jewel. Each has their own reasons for wanting it: it's priceless beyond measure, and even a fragment would be worth a king's ransom. And there are rumors it can grant your heart's desire... and even bring the dead back to life...
P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an “architect” or a “gardener”? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the story unfold as you go?)
I'm a... gardenitecht? (Or a plantser, for folks who prefer the terms planter vs. pantser)
Any story I write over, say, 2k has at least some semblance of an outline or synopsis. Sometimes that outline was created solely by me; sometimes I riffed with a friend to come up with the scenario. Multichapters, like Of Queens, Horses, and Red Strings, get a more detailed outline with plot points to hit for each chapter.
That said, sometimes the story goes to unexpected places along the way, and usually I don't fight it when it does.
Followed you for your JJK content. Stuck around because the edits you compose and reblog are pretty darn nifty. :)
I do post a lot of JJK stuff lol... I never expected to get SO into the series, it's really surprised me. Thank you so much!! I'm glad you like my edits~ ^.^ I also 100% approve of your use of the word "nifty" lmaoooo
