We wouldn't want innocents to see hand holding
Notes: I'm aware this is very late, but I was on vacation.
Hungary watched as Italy and Holy Rome ran through the gardens. She probably needed to tell Italy to get back to work before one of his superior’s saw him, but they were kids. A little bit of playtime never hurt anybody.
“Erzsébet?” Hungary heard Austria’s voice call through the garden. “Roderich, we’re right here!” she called back.
Silence followed and Hungary expected Austria to appear from behind the hedge, but he didn’t.
“Roderich?” Hungary called.
“Yes, yes Erzsébet I’m coming.” His tone sounded a little frustrated, and Hungary realized what was wrong.
See Austria’s garden was built like a labyrinth, with multiple hedges surrounding a circular middle. The labyrinth wasn’t hard to figure out, but to someone like Austria, it was an impossible challenge.
‘Oh how could this man ever survive without me?” Hungary couldn’t help but think.
After looking to make sure Italy and Holy Rome weren’t getting up to anything naughty, Hungary walked back into the labyrinth.
Hungary walked through the labyrinth, appreciating the work and dedication it must’ve taken to get it this way.
Hungary wasn’t a gardener herself, but she could recognize hard work.
“Erzsébet?” Austria said from behind her. “What are you doing here?”
Hungary smiled, “well you got lost didn’t you? I came here to save you!” Erzsébet said with an exaggerated bow.
A rosy blush spread on Austria’s face. “Well-, yes. Thank you Erzsébet.”
Austria tried his best to be the image of a perfect ‘man’, meaning that he tried to not request help from her. Seeing as that was seen as ‘unmanly’, Hungary thought that the whole thing was rubbish, but she still thought Austria’s attempts at being manly were amusing, and adorable.
Hungary grabbed Austria’s hand and watched as he flinched in surprise and blushed, not looking her in the face.
“Allow me to lead you to the center of the labyrinth, sir.”
Hungary led Austria to the center of the labyrinth, neither of them saying anything while walking. But before they could get in the sight of Italy and Holy Rome, Austria let go of her hand.
Hungary looked at him questioningly, silently asking why he let go. “We-” Hungary instantly understood why Austria had let go.
“Ah yes, I apologize. We wouldn’t want innocents to see hand holding.”
