A guilty pleasure of mine in Troll relationships is the idea of a red-ashen vacillation. Which only flips to ashen instead of black because the third leaf always interjects themselves the moment that the red relationship threatens to wax black. Either cause they don’t like the two of them when they’re black, the two leaves don’t want to go black even though it happens, or just it’ best for the world around them that this red not wax black.
I don’t recall if there’s been a word coined for someone referring to the other person getting auspistized. Like, the ‘middle leaf’ I’ve seen for people doing the mediating. But what’s the word for the person on the other side of getting auspistized?
‘Far leaf’? Would ‘far leaf’ be a good term for it?
auspistism is my favorite homestuck quadrant. Took me a bit to really get it but I read a few good fanfictions exploring it and just.
On the auspistice's side you need to have a really good understanding of these two people and the relationship between them in order to keep them safe, keep them from destroying each other and maybe taking everyone else with them.
And then if you're one of the auspistees (that's not the term but i don't remember the actual term), there can be this thing of like. You know the two of you will destroy each other but you can't stay away. But then if your auspistice will be there to catch you when you fall, to keep the two of you safe from destroying each other, maybe you don't have to!
Obviously it's an odd sort of relationship that probably wouldn't work well in actually reality, but as a fictional dynamic it can be so fun
So long story short, for the past 5 days I’ve been on vacation in Belgium with 5 of my friends, who just so happen to be women. Sure, it is a little non-traditional; incredibly straight man going with group of diverse women but I think they are a riot, so I gladly joined.
3 days went by rather uneventful. We settled in, hung out, explored caverns and mountains and on the evening of the 4th day began boozing. A lot.
Awkward confessions of day’s long past were made, ex-boyfriends got ridiculed and also I was there.
To abbriviate a complicated story 2 of the women, headstrong and confident as they are, decide to share the bed that night. Normally I would be fine with this; experimentation with one’s sexuality is nothing to be ashamed of, however....
I knew both of their boyfriends, one of them being my best friend.
I knew said boyfriends consider this behavior cheating.
I knew both of them would regret it in the morning.
Most importantly however is that they chased me out of the bedroom I shared with one of them to do it and that they kept the rest of us awake with awkwardly loud moaning. The ultimate douchebag roomie action.
Taking all of these factors into account, I consulted the remaining women in our little group, who’se responses varied from: ‘Iunno’ to ‘Their problem’ to ‘Wait, they are doing what? But why?’. Not exactly the most helpful bunch in this predicament. Fueled by the knowledge of their inevitable regret and a desire to go to sleep, in the knowledge that we’d have to get up in 3 hours, I did what any responsible friend would do.
I knocked on the door and gave them ample time to cover themselves. After all, it was the polite thing to do. To add to the suspense, I opened the door very slowly, which one of them admitted gave a bit of a serial killer vibe.... Not my intended goal but whatever works, right?
I casually entered, whisteling ‘dance of the sugar plum fairy’ while I got my cellphone, pretending that was the whole reason I returned to my room. It was very hard pretending not to notice the pile of admittedly attractive female bodies. They greeted me with awkward silence.
I leaned against the wall, asking them if they needed anything; Water, fruit, more booze, music. One of them responded with a high-pitched ‘no thanks’. I asked them if they were sure before shrugging it off.
I calmly informed them that everyone could hear literally everything and wished them good luck on their journey to explore their sexual identity. One of them immediately yelled that I couldn’t tell anyone but I reminded her that everyone already heard. In hindsight, she probably meant I couldn’t tell her boyfriend but that story is yet to have a satisfying conclusion.
Alcohol, in my experience, removes inhibitors and I wanted to give them a; ‘are you sure you want to do this?’ moment without being preachy. The awkward interruption of their activities gave them that moment. Though they continued making out, they had become a lot more quiet and decided in hushed murmurs (that they thought I couldn’t hear) to nót go further. I still can’t morally rationalize their actions but it could have been a lot worse.
So it worked. The following morning was a bit awkward but when everyone was well awake during lunch we discussed what happened. The two of them were indeed glad that I stepped in before things got out of hand and actually thought it was sweet I did.
And all the while they sang my praises, all I could think of is that this must be what a functional auspisticism is like all the time.
since x is traditionally used to denoted a romantic pairing (Bro x Mom, Jane x Jake, what have you), why doesn't the Homestuck fandom use the other three last letters of the alphabet for the other three quadrants?
You could use W for auspistism (Kanaya w Eridan / Vriska)
Y for moirallegiance (Equius y Nepeta, Vriska y Kanaya)
and Z for kismesitude (Equius z Aradia, Eridan z Vriska)
idk guys I just think we missed out on a huge oppertunity with this
EDIT: I just realised we could also use V for the second part of the auspistism, which works because it is one of the five last letters of the alphabet, it is half of a W, and it is also often used as short for 'versus', so it could be formatted thusly;
in kissmissitude, the fighting pretty much always leads to stress relief, either through physical activity (actual fighting) or being distracted. (yeah this assignment sucks, but OMG DID I TELL YOU WHAT MY KISSMESIS JUST DID)
with auspisitm, the rivals' fighting causes stress, instead of relieving it. either because 'oh no they're hot, but i already have an asshole in my life' or because 'i really really really really don't hate you that way, stop it' or because 'wow you're awful. i'm going to stab you. platonically.'
this is where the auspistice steps in. to further the existance of both parties, they mediate between the two. this is where the actual stress relief of the relationship comes from: for the rivals it's knowing that there is someone there who will step in and handle things, and for the auspistice it's knowing that you will be able to sort this shit out and put a stop to it. any meddler or perfectionist knows that getting your way is a wonderful feeling. especially if you know you're helping someone.
HOLY SHIT FANDOM, WHAT IF THE KID'S CHILDHOOD SHIRT SYMBOLS WERE FORESHADOWING THEIR MATURE PERSONALITIES?!!?!?!?!!
John wore a spade, kismesisittude, it would explain John's crab in the bucket attitude right now. He'll be even more vicious in battle than he already was when he first entered the game. That is my predicition, maybe the John<3<Karkat ship will set sail again since John's new personality will most likely clash with Karkat's. Who knows.
Dave wore a heart, matespritship, he cares about his friends and family. He was the only one of the kids to actually speak well of his guardian-Bro-from the very beginning where as the others spoke of their guardians with an annoyed tone. I'm not saying that Dave didn't have his moments where he thought Bro was annoying, but he still thought Bro Strider was the coolest thing since sliced bread. Even though he wears a poker face, hides behind a cool facade, Dave is the sweetest boy ever.
I believe that Jade wore a clove and that Rose wore a diamond. I am not sure though. But if they did that would explain Jade's peace making personality and Rose's desire to give people "feeling jams".
