Hmm, not sure if FrAus counts as a Rarepair or not, because technically I think it is, but France is not a particularly unusual pick for Austria ships specifically so..? Huh, well, count FrAus in if you consider it rare! :3
As for others, I guess AmeAus and AusIta. I like the idea of EngAus (gentleman/gentleman except they're both playing pretend to a degree!! That's kinda an interesting dynamic, isn't it?) but I haven't really explored it much yet 💔 I kinda feel the same about AusPol although I thought about it a tiiiny bit more. AusBela has immaculate aesthetics and that's all I'm saying ✨ I can also see the appeal of TurkAus, although personally I like to think of their interactions as civil and possibly funny but not quite as a ship.
Oh- I was forgetting! PortAus 👀 Just had a few thoughts about in the past, like in terms of intimacy Austria would probably enjoy having double the Antonios around 😂 And like- I also thought of a scenario with Austria possibly giving in and letting Portugal in his bedroom after the divorce with Spain just because João looks so much like him and Roderich is craving Antonio so badly and is desperate to fall into this delusion for the time of a night. And João knows this is the only reason why those nights happened, the only reason why Roderich looks at him that way and he's not particularly hurt by Austria's behavior per se because it's not like Portugal loves him, but it does make his heart ache a little that he's fundamentally just a tool to fill the emptiness left by someone else who just happens to look like him. Roderich also regrets it every time, keeps telling himself and also João that that's all there is to their interactions besides diplomacy, he feels so damn pathetic for it but on the other hand that's the closest he can get to drown himself in memories of his past with Antonio without the risk of feeling vulnerable and devastated by trying to reach back to the Spaniard.
Huh okay I don't know how this turned mostly into a rambling about Spain/Austria/Portugal intimate relations but here we are 😅 I never find the right occasion to talk about this, haha. I had also sketched a couple comic pages about the scenario I described above, like last year I think, but I've never worked on it again. Maybe I should, dunno, although it's just a short glimpse on their dynamic and I don't feel skilled enough at drawing manga pages >_< Maybe I'll try to pick it back if I can figure out the panel flow better.
