BirdLife Australia experts explain why the Australian regulator's proposed rat poison reforms still won’t protect our birds
Aus Government is trying to deal with the damage second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) is doing to our wildlife and as they do they Fucked Up. The entire situation can be summed up buy this line from the article:
Australia’s wildlife needs less SGAR poisons in the environment, not more paperwork – and the APVMA’s [Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority] proposed changes won’t achieve this.
This is me calling to say STOP buying these products. Second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) are long lasting poisons which are detrimental to ecosystems and kill several generations up the food chain, this is called secondary poisoning. They're outlawed in several countries and also kill pets.
BirdLife Australia has a petition to remove them from public sale in Australia.
Read labels. Chemicals to avoid: Brodifacoum, Bromadialone and Difenacoum. Brands: Talon, Fast Action RatSak, Mortein and The Big Cheese Fast Action baits. Generally anything labelled as fast action will contain SGARs.
