A Trip to Austin: Log #6
Get in car, drive to apartment complex. Park car. Walk through lease office. "Hi, I saw your apartment on ______ and wanted to ask some questions" Shake hands. Sit down. Go over lease options. Hand ID. Walk through apartments. Talk about utilities. Get packet. Jot down figures. Shake hands again. Leave. Get in car.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
That's been pretty much my entire day and so far my thoughts are 1. These apartments are beautiful! 2. Can I even afford this? 3. Fuck I might have to co-sign with my parents? 4. Will they even co-sign for my ass? 5. What are my cheaper options? 6. Is there any that doesn't involved my safety being at risk?
These thoughts and many more are now circling through my head, my ratty, cigarette burned sheets littered with a dozen different apartment pamphlets. Doing the mental math in my picture and now I'm not so certain. All these apartments are more expensive then I anticipated and the ones that were in my expected range were in areas that...well, theirs a reason for that.
I must regroup, rethink my strategy. What other apartments are out there? Maybe I overlooked some. But most dauntingly, like some fell Belrog staring me down, will I be able to make the move at all? I'm still just a lowly waiter/struggling filmmaker, how the fuck will I be able to pull of the rent should my entire years worth of savings runs out???
I swear, being a grownup sucks.
But its also exciting as well! It did give me a rush of satisfaction knowing that I was going to these places and making all the big boy decisions. And Austin seems like a pretty hip city.
Tomorrow, my journey continues. I wonder what new adventure awaits me?
Also, this Latina lady hasn't stopped yelling in six hours. Oh Red Roof.
