Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye. You were bigger than the whole sky
Austrian Grand Prix: Qualy
The qualifying in Austria ended again with a pole position of Max Verstappen. But it was a very close one with just 0.048 seconds gap to Charles Leclerc, who finally made it into Q3 after three races without a top 10 result in Qualy.
Q1:
Q1 started and it was clear from the beginning that the annoying topic of Austria is still there: TRACKLIMITS! One driver after another got their time cancelled because of tracklimit violations. Then after about 5 minutes Valttieri Bottas spun out in the first corner and came to a stop at the grass near the pit exit. His car wasn't driving anymore and so there was a red flag. But shortly after the session was stopped, Bottas was able to get his car rolling and drive back to the pit by itself. Memories about his teammate Zhou from the Q1 in Canada came back, who also had to stop his car and as soon as the session got stopped was able to drive back to the pit. Otherwise the first session went by as usual and Bottas even managed to qualify for the next session with P15.
Q2:
The second session then got his negative and positive surprises again. While Charles Leclerc was able to reach Q3 this time, Sergio Perez wasn't. Even though he had the second fastest time three times, every single lap time got erased, because of track limit violations and so he ended up in last place (P15) behind Bottas. Also George Russel only made it to P11 and Ocon finished in P12. Nico Hülkenberg again made it into the third qualifying session with P9.
Q3:
In Q3 Max Verstappen made it clear very early that he will be the first contender for the pole position again. But it got really close in the end and Charles Leclerc was on a purple time after two sectors, but in the end less than half a tenth behind Verstappen in P2. Carlos Sainz gained the third position while Lando Norris completes the second row with a phenomenal fourth place. The Aston Martin weren't that strong this time and Stroll was faster than Fernando Alonso in Q2 and 3, They are starting from P6 and 7.
