Rhoda's defeatist nature didn't originally come from the Titan hiding in her mind, it was always there. She was coddled as a kid, particularly by Amity. Amity tried not to repeat the mistakes Odalia made, but that overwhelming love and support created (or helped to emerge) Rhoda's perfectionism and fear of failure. What if she made a mistake? What if her moms got mad at her, even if they rarely ever did? Would they hate her? What would that be like? Constant questions racing through her mind. You can read about kid-Rhoda in my series of oneshots on AO3, Mothers of Melodies. Harmless self promotion lol

Also, Rhoda's new focus is helping all of her loved ones, putting them before herself. She's staving off that fear of abandonment as much as she can.

Ori was AFAB but transitioned sometime before The Magic Goes Away began. They've become much more comfortable in their onw body, but they still have low-self esteem particularly when it comes to their voice. Not the pitch or raspiness of their voice, but the volume. Ori can get very loud when excited, their parents and old friends were often bothered by it. Ori wishes they were more reserved like Rhoda.

Of course, Rhoda loves how excited Ori can get.

As a Bard, Penny's love for music came from her mom Willow singing her to sleep. With the guilt from cutting Rhoda out, Penny has become obsessed with composing the perfect song. She's combining Healing and Bard magic and wants to create a song that can calm people down. She hates that her twin Caleb and Rhoda can get so tense and angry. Helping them heal their relationship is her primary goal.

Caleb is protective, desperate to keep everyone safe. He watched his twin sister Penny get bullied a lot, and when his magic finally bloomed he knew he had the strength to protect her (and everyone else). He's cold, determined, but underneath it all he's a dork about his glyph magic and his garden. It's why he and Rhoda got along so well as kids, dorks gravitate toward each other.

While Avery was only introduced in the last two chapters of The Magic Goes Away, I'm developing him for a sequel. He's deaf, he doesn't make friends easily, and he hates the sound of the robotic text-to-speech on his phone that he uses to communicate. No, he can't hear it, but he sees how people react when they listen to that voice. He and Ori bond over this shared disdain for themselves.

A lot of these facts were sad, but it's kind of a sad story! In both TMGA and the planned follow-up, they all help each other through their fears. Thanks for letting me ramble 😁

At some point I'll have to decide what petname would Mr Ominis Gaunt use for his lover and I feel as if I'm influenced by the many audios I saw on tiktok and fanfics I read (which isn't a bad thing at all)

As a non native english speaker I never heard them spoken for real to someone so I have mixed feelings. I need to chose and I think there's one I prefer but I fear it's not very creative.

I'm probably giving this too much thoughts... OTL

The constant tension of a fic writer working with historical fiction--you look to history for details and inspiration, realize they all contradict canon and/or would be potentially confusing af for fic readers, and you’re just like, “Maybe I should take a nap instead.”

I am devastated.  I somehow lost a scene I had completely rewritten about a year ago.  All I can find is the version that was basically unchanged from 1995 to 2019, which is short, clunky, and I kind of hate now.  About a year ago I rewrote it from scratch, expanded it, and made it SO much better.  The setting was described in detail, the background characters had personality, it was more realistic, there were character beats for four different people, it explored the motivations and trust issues going on, and it flowed so well.

And now I can’t find it.  I’ve looked at every backup copy of the files that I have and none of them are the new version.  I cannot for the life of me figure this out.  I have been known to rewrite scenes in my head, but I’m 100% positive I actually did type this out.  I don’t remember it well enough to rewrite it the way I did before, so I would have to essentially rewrite it from scratch again.

I could just cry.

The only thing I can think of is that somehow the most up-to-date version didn’t get copied over onto my new computer last summer, but, like, I copy-pasted everything directly onto my external hard drive and then onto the new computer, so how could that have gotten screwed up?

I really dislike the practice of having to tag absolutely every fucking thing that happens in a fic.

Like, the best novels don't come with fucking tags and trigger warnings. If they did no one would read them.
