(Do you remember your dreams? If so, what sorts of things do you dream about? Share a dream you had recently, or one that left a big impression on you!)
“…I have dreamt lately of a woman confined to a bed. She cannot speak, she cannot move, and the vibrancy of her skin has drained to the colors of her bedsheets. She gives me a smile, and by the time I reach her, her cheeks are cold. They… crumble, and then I am looking down at a closed casket, and it’s all I can do to stay and watch each handful of dirt hide her away from the sun she loved so much.” Matthias scowls, shaking his head. “Of course, it’s entirely unimportant. Dreams such as this appear to anyone who has feared a loss. Which is everyone.”
(Gilly, who was your last significant other before Matthias? And vice versa, if Matthias is around and answering.)
“I’m afraid there are little of remaining importance. I experienced wild stands with many persons, but in my hasty youth, there was no time for bonding beyond that of the physical nature. I had scarcely established myself in the Upper District—and thus cut down on my harried lifestyle—when I met my Giltine. And, of course, I haven’t had anyone else since.”
He pauses to cross his legs and lace his fingers together on his lap. “Giltine had a few minor relations before, but none deep nor lasting. Technically speaking, the previous person who held that position was a Mr. Witherdry, to whom she was arranged to be wed to until an unexpected death struck the old gasbag.”

Is Viradium far? Do many Amarantine young people Of A Certain Class go there to study?
“Viradarium is the homeland for the humans here in Amarantos. It is where our ancestors lived before they settled this land and created Amarantos. Much of our trade and commerce goes back to benefit Viradarium as well as many other colonies scattered across the seas. Since, of course, education there is much more well established than Amarantine education, a number of aristocrats send their young children there to study, though the travel costs limit even us humans from sending too many. As far as I am aware, no aristocrat has ever sent anyone nonhuman to study at the academies.
…Oh, and Viradarium is on the other side of the world. Best method of travel is boat and airship.”
With a dismissive sigh, Matthias returns to his novel.
Hermes & Hades!
Hermes: Where in the world would you most like to visit?
“That, my friend, is an excellent question. But of course, the denizens must be considered… Given my status as an oppressive, filthy rich aristocrat and the horror stories spread from those who escape, I doubt anywhere but the humans’ homeland across the sea would welcome me and my love. Though, I would rather enjoy seeing the wonders they’ve built. Great arches of brass and steel, twisted into extravagant sculptures that serve also to house as well as please. Imagine the lushness of it all. Even better than the jungle gardens here… Yes, I think I would like most to visit Viradarium some day.”
Hades: If you could meet a person from history, who would it be and why?
“Undoubtedly, it would be Orcus Valda, the founder of Amarantos. Though under his guidance, he has wrought much injustice in this land, he has also given me the one thing that has made my life not bearable, but a true joy, despite the hatred I receive. I would thank him, for without my dear Giltine, I would not be nearly what I am now.”
Tell us more about Mr. Tuvel's views on the jangwa. Is it purely a question of cultural admiration, or is there something fetishy going on there as well? And as for this childhood friend of his, did their association continue after Matthias was disowned? Did he ever find himself involved in, shall we say, seedier sectors of jangwa society?
(wow about time I answered this)
Matthias sits back in his chair, fingers resting under his chin as his lips split into a smile.
“Why, Mr. Tanner, I am glad you asked~ Fitting information for a “revolutionary” as yourself.”
“When my father threw me out and left me for dead, he succeeded. My pampered life was killed, and I was left to wallow in my ashes with the scum of the city. And wallow I did for a while, until the efforts of my friend to help me ended with his incarceration and untimely torture. It was an unpleasant matter, of course, and left me a wandering body. In order to survive, I had to become the scum I had been discarded into, and claw my way back to the place I once held, through whatever means I had available. Comrades came, and comrades went. But comrades they were, regardless of our differences in shape.”
“My decision to decorate my body in their honor is not one that has treated me kindly, nor will it ever allow me to live peacefully in this city. So, Mr. Tanner,”
He leans forward, nursing a grin, “You tell me how I value your kin.”
