((While Gilly’s relationship is largely only political, thanks to both of their families being present on the High Council, Matthias’ relationship is not so simple.  Since he has taken the place of Gilly on the Council, there is a running political connection.  But, when he was still clawing his way back into his current position, Lady Caldwile (then Ms. Lorraine), expressed… close interest in the young man’s plight.  But, within a few months, Matthias had openly declared his love for Gilly, and Camelia was set to be married.  And though Matthias has made his intentions clear to have only Gilly, I cannot speak for the Ladyship herself~))

On rare, rare occasion, Gilly can get mad enough that she throws things. Generally vases or books. It's usually aimed at a wall, and never at Matthias. It's almost never him she's angry with, either. It happened a lot more often when her father was alive, but since he's died it's only happened once or twice.

Giltine's cousin Morana (who is married to Matthias' brother Joshua) was actually Matthias' best friend for a long time. Her marriage tore them apart, and they haven't talked for a long time. 

Gilly struggles with food. A lot. For a long time, it was a battle to actually get her to eat. Nowadays she's doing much better, though there are still days when she struggles.

{Oh my, I've been waiting for this one.(;

Amarantos is governed by both an upper and a lower council, and I really ought to have figured this out before we started everything. The lower council is made up of the 72 most important families in Amarantos; the heads of each family meet once a year to discuss things. Really, though, the lower council is pretty unimportant. They don't get to do much.

The true power lies with the upper council, which is made of the 5 most influential families at the time. This council meets twice a month, and actually creates the laws of Amarantos. The Valdas have a permanent place on that council, considering their history with Amarantos.

The other four families change out depending on power fluxes, but at the moment the Levitts and Caldwiles are both there. As Matthias was disowned, his younger brother Joshua takes the Levitt place. Camelia Caldwile fills in for her husband, as he has been ill of late. Since Gilly is the current Valda heir, she has a place on this council as well, though she detests it. Should she die, her cousin Morana, who is married to Joshua Levitt, would take her place, unless she marries and has a child before that. In that case, her husband would take her place until their child was 16 and could attend council meetings. 

Matthias has had to attend the last few council meetings for her, as she's often too ill to leave the house.

In short, Basif was very, very accurate when he said Giltine could be the most powerful woman in Amarantos.}

Gilly and Matthias are still so in love it’s kind of gross, even after ten years of being together. 

They have sex more often than either would be comfortable admitting. 

All of Gilly’s brothers died from the same genetic disease, and both she and Matthias are terrified of her having it as well. 

Gilly’s father disowned her and kicked her out of the house for refusing to marry the man he’d engaged her to (who was around 60 at the time, while she was 20). She moved in with Matthias a few hours later, and has been there ever since.

{The tourists are mostly humans from Viridarium, but a few come from other countries, as well. However, nearly all of them are disgustingly rich; how else would they have the money to travel to the Desert Flower?}
