With a particular focus on sounds and sonic arrangements, this new self-produced album finds the Hollywood-raised sister duo of Piper and Skylar Kaplan drawing as much from their outsider-pop mentors (Ariel Pink, R. Stevie Moore) as from their dream-pop contemporaries. Even the lyrics aim to subvert the accepted values of their Hollywood hometown for something more personal: "What we're going for is pop music that is not about vanity and wealth," adds Piper. "But is still pop music nonetheless."
