Camouflage is fascinating. I found this cool moth in my yard on a dead Hosta stem! I thought it was foliage at first! iNaturalist suggests it's an Autographa, which is in the Noctuidae family. Glad I spotted it!

@moth-claws submitted: a couple of lovely moths found on my doorway, on different days too! no id needed for the second one (since it’s ultimately pretty generic looking) but id really love to know what the first one is! the markings on its wings almost looked like droplets of gold with how shiny they were. [removed] (please remove)
Wow, that first dude is beautiful! Looks like a looper moth in the genus Autographa, probably a two-spotted looper, Autographa bimaculata. The second one I can tell you offhand is a Noctuid, but beyond that, a lot of photo comparison would be required!
Bug of the Day
A wonderful, docile Large Looper Moth (Autographa ampla) from this past June.
Common Looper, Autographa precationis (by me)
@sarcasm-n-insomnia submitted: Los Angeles, CA, USA (ID if you can please, cool if not. I know the pic isn’t great. They were moving around a ton). I don’t know what type of moth this is but they were very stressed out when they got in my house. I wish I could explain to them the way out so it’s not so stressful for everyone.
Oh no! Hopefully they were safely released eventually and no one was harmed in the process. They're a noctuid moth, probably an alfalfa looper, Autographa californica :)
Bug of the Day
Common looper (Autographa precationis), Head On. :-)
