Officially the coolest and most bizarre thing I've ever found found thrifting: German translation of one of Barrack Obama's books.

The story gets wild though, I promise.

So my brother and his friend invite me to go thrifting with them, since it's become a fun activity for us these days, and as we pass the book section I see Obama's face and German text. Now this would not be unusual if I was living in Deutschland or another European country, but I live in Northern Virginia, USA.

I point out this oddity, jokingly asking if either of them was interested in it, and my brother sarcastically responds with "Oh yeah, that's an autographed copy," while walking away. As he is saying that, I'm checking the copywrite date and see the signature, figuring it's just printed on.

"Uhm... it actually is..."

That's not printed, that's sharpie, it bled through to the other side. I do not know how on earth this ended up where it did, but... Danke, Obama.

So, I just bought a second hand copy of Lost Moon, the book that the movie Apollo 13 was based on, written by Commander Jim Lovell

I started flipping to the publication page to see if this edition was printed before or after the movie came out, and I saw this

Wait a second...

No way...

Holy shit! This is a real autographed copy! I wasn't expecting that, the seller didn't mention it, it wasn't marked up or anything! They either forgot or they didn't care, because there's no way I would just plop this thing on thriftbooks with no fanfare and be rid of it. Whoever Terry was, I really gotta thank them for my new favorite book. I have a few authors' autographs, Max Brooks, John and Hank Green, all intentional preorder specials, but this was just a happy accident! Really made my day
