Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left to Lose by synecdochic - Because OBVIOUSLY this has to be on any McShep reclist. If you haven't read this, read this. If you have read this, read it again. I usually like to put a day aside just to read it and weep. I have it printed out and I designed a cover for it and everything because I love it that much. IT'S MY FAVORITE GOD.
EVERYTHING by Speranza (also her Due South fic if you're into that because GOD IT'S SO GOOD) but especially Written by the Victors because not only is it super long, it's super detailed and epic and romantic and tragic and the audiobook format of it KILLS ME (in a good way). I also usually take a day to read this fic and CRY about it.

The Hard Prayer by Rheanna - the kind of post-apocalyptic fic that rips your heart out and knits it back together, slowly, and with care. SUCH a good read.
Aegis by springwoof and leah - Very long, very plotty, sometimes hard for me to read but well done. It deals with a John that I find hard to deal with because he's so broken. Deals with triggering issues like suicide and self-blame and such, so be forewarned. Some days I'm in the mood for it, and some days I'm not!
Intersections by kaneko - I think this is my all time favorite McShep fic. Possibly. It's BEAUTIFUL backstory for both John and Rodney, and builds this gorgeous past for both them. It has shaped my head canons for both of them, to where sometimes I don't know where canon ends, and fanon begins. Also there is some SMOKING hot porn in there. Ahhh it's just so gorgeous, I can't recommend this enough.
OKAY I think those are the main ones that I reread/relisten to (all of these are audiobooks as well as text posts, just fyi - my audiobook files are my reclists) all the time. If you've read all of these, I recommend getting the audiobooks because listening to them in a different format brings the fics alive to me. Or! I will go digging through my other fics to find some that aren't as well known.
