In the first few episodes of The Owl House, I found people's shock at Eda's curse strange.
It felt odd that King, her "roommate" at the time, had never even seen or heard of the owl beast until after Luz arrived.
When we first met Lilith she mentions that she "suprised" when she first saw Eda again, in regards to the curse's effects on her.
At first I thought, witch, were you not paying any attention to your sister??
But now that season 2 is finished- I've realized why they were both so shocked by it.
For King, we now know from Echoes of the Past that in present time, King is a little older than 8 yrs old (post-hatching). That would somewhat explain why he's never heard of, seen, or simply doesn't remember seeing the owl beast. But not entirely.
At face value for Lilith, that doesn't explain in anyway why she didn't know how bad it'd gotten.
Not until we take a look back at Eda through the years.
Let's say she ran away at 17 after attacking Dell, had her breakup with Raine at 27, found King & took him home at 37, & now she's 45.
In the first 10 years she had little to no change in appearance, only a little grey starting to grow. In the first 10 years she was able to keep the curse at bay so much so her bestfriend & partner had never seen the owl beast or many symptoms of the curse
But then i remembered that the Eda we see in Echoes of the Past is also only 8 yrs younger than see is at present. That means Eda went from this to this-
-in only eight years. Going from just sidestreak greys to completely grey in less than 10 years during your 30's-40's is a physical indication of an extremely rapid decline in her health.
Which we knew was happening but I don't think any of us realized just how quickly the symptoms have escalated in the last 8 years & even the last few months!
At the beginning of the show she was still in control as long as she had one elixir per day- more if she was stressed, but still. Then just a month or two later, they're not even working anymore.
I don't think she was entirely lying when she told Lily that she wasn't sure how much time she had left.
