“Family”... No, not really.
((Warning: Slightly triggering))
At least they had stopped staring at her as if she was some alien to them. Sometimes, she just wanted to scream at them like a 5 year old, “Hello yes, I see you staring at me. Just so you know, I AM NORMAL JUST LIKE YOU.” Not that it would do anything besides create more staring and ‘concern’ for my well being. The last thing I wanted, was to be shipped off to the local psychologist.
So instead, I spent my time in dark corners, anywhere I could find a hiding spot really. It helped being smaller than the rest of them. I could get into crevices they could not. The only family I needed, and wanted was my real family. Avaara and Caemos. I had nothing left of Caemos except a broken off horn, and the only thing I had left of Avaara was the skull currently sitting in my lap.
The skull was tiny, she was only 7 when it happened, and I 9. We had survived a year in there together, all three of us before she went first. CRACK. Just like a nut in a nut crackers mouth. A cackle unwillingly escaped forth from my chapped lips, causing them to bleed slightly. The sound of her skull hitting the rock playing over and over in my head, and getting more humorous as it keep playing. Yea... There was no way I could go see the psychologist. I would end up with more trouble now than I already had. That just wouldn’t do.
I just wanted to spend time, here, with my real family. Not the fake family downstairs. They didn’t raise me, I’m not their daughter. Ma and Pa, probably dead unless they forgot about us, are my real family. Avaara and Caemos, too. That, is all the family I will ever need.
VIOLET
Back to School
I stood in front of the only mirror in my dorm room. My slim body was clad in a novices robes: white. I was told once I completed my first exam, I could have more variety. Until then, I did whatever I was told when I was told. This would not end well.
To match, I had decorated my hooves in white ankle bands that made a clink every time I moved. My horns were also clad in the same jewelry. On my back, was my hand made staff, carved bone and the skull of Avaara sitting on top. Her favorite flowers, red on the inside and white on the outside, were twined within the various holes. They had tried to pry it from me, but I wouldn't let them. I had ended up explaining why. It was a fair trade.
Today would be the first day of class for me. We would learn how to safely, and properly open ourselves up to each of the 5 types of magic. I was told classes would consist of a balance of book work and hands on learning. To learn to control my natural ability to frost filled me with excitement. I would be able to be strong just like those battle mages, and work my magic into my dances. Perhaps I would be the first frost magic dancer.
The town's bell struck, signaling the hour and that class would begin in 3 minutes. With confidence, I stepped from my dorm and into the hallway.
