jaime & ava — this is wrong
Continued from here. @avajustbc
The moment their eyes met, Ava knew this was it. She had of course heard about it, that instance you meet your soulmate and that you would just know. Alas, she didn’t think her moment would come, since so many of her friends were now married and living their happily ever after while she was stuck in that diner she worked in. Sometimes she wondered if maybe they forgot about her… they, being whatever higher power it was that was supposed to match soulmates. Yet, here he stood, right in front of her and honestly he’d never felt this way before. The second she felt the sparks and chemistry with him of all people, she was ecstatic. She couldn’t have wished for anyone better, Jaime was everything Ava could ever want… But, she knew she wasn’t good enough. Not for him. Jaime deserved someone stable, someone not… as much of a wreck. Someone not her. She watched him lean in and for a moment all she could do was thank her stars for him… But she also knew that she owed it to him to be honest. “No… No please… It wasn’t wrong. That wasn’t wrong… What I meant was… I’m wrong for you. You… Can do better than me, Jaime… I don’t… Deserve you….” Her gaze cast down, her hands hand been clutched together but now they suddenly let go and gripped on to both of his. She still wasn’t looking at him though even as she spoke. “I feel this… I do… And I want this so much… But you deserve so much better than me… I’m nothing, no one. I can’t give you anything….”
Jaime was fairly ignorant of what was going on around him, always. He took little interest into other people’s lives and barely showed them even a friendly smile. He was so focused on his business; on his restaurant that people presumed him to be arrogant, or cocky. But nobody knew him. He was used to people running from him, or not taking the time to get to know him. He’d never had a steady girlfriend because of that. He’d never slept with anybody, despite his age and he’d never even thought of chasing after any of that. His business was his relationship. It was what he loved. What he enjoyed. Only, it couldn’t hurt him. He couldn’t let it down in the way he could let down a person. He didn’t have to get intimate with it.
“I don’t know what is making you say that,” he asked, honestly, with wandering eyes as his lips slid down to push against each other. His head nodded at her words, though he couldn’t entirely understand them. He wasn’t the smartest of people. He knew how to live in the world; he knew what success meant, but he’d had such a troubled childhood that school and learning had been the least of his troubles. “You...You might be right,” he gulped. Even when talking like this, he could feel the spark. He could FEEL the growing need and want for this girl. But he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t be with a human being before and he’d never be able to now. He was too scared. Too scared of what she’d eventually want; too scared of hurting her when he denied her that or freaked out over it. It was easier to agree with her, though selfish. He’d learned to put himself first. For the first time in a while he didn’t want to do that right now, but he saw no other way. “I can’t give you what you need either. I can’t be with someone- that’s...that’s just NOT me. I’m sorry. But at least we agree that we’d never work.”
