I recently learned that the Avalon protocol exists.
Something that 616 Tony made by scanning his brain so the suit could keep fighting as if he's still piloting it if Tony dies in battle.
I absolutely hate how easy it is to believe he would do that.

bro i just found out about the avalon protocol and it is dragging me kicking, screaming, and SOBBING back into the mcu fandom. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE IRON MAN SUIT WOULD KEEP FIGHTING WITH TONY'S DEAD BODY IN IT. WHAT DO YOU MEAN. you can't place an angst laced bone that delicious in front of me, a very sad animal, and expect me not to gnaw the fuck out of it
Best angst trope, Hanahaki or Avalon Protocol?
(Warning angst o’clock with these guys)
Hanahaki's great, but Avalon Protocol wrecks me. It's just so horrifically sad and awful but also just so Tony, which is also sad. And it might make Steve hate the sight of the Ironman armor from then on, and that's awful for him to wrestle with, too. And just hrghdfjg!! everything about it hurts.
I'll Always Catch You
Angsty Trash art for the @stevetonygames ! Done with ibispaint X and my finger, rip, but I want points.
Tony's Alavon protocol went into play a long time ago, but no one knew until now...
CW Character death
Psst, what ur fav? Avalon Protocol fic where 1) Steve learns about it beforehand and freaks out and they talk/angst it out or 2) full on, Tony dies and the terrible aftermath or 3) a combo where Tony’s just super hurt or unconscious and lives but now has to deal with a Steve that know WHAT THE FUCK YOU WERE DOING TONY
ooooooooh probably 1 or 3 because hmmmm yes angst and hurt/comfort, but in this house we are cowards who avoid major character death like 95% of the time. (the remaining 5% is for when i'm in the Mood for it....... but this is very, very rare.)
Spotlight: Avalon Protocol
Now that the bingo card has been released, we'll be taking a closer look at some of the canon references we included as prompts! It’s @thingexplainer, here to talk about the Avalon Protocol!
The Avalon Protocol is the idea that Tony Stark programmed the Iron Man armor to continue fighting should he die during battle. It’s commonly considered fanon, but did you know that it's has a canonical story attached to it? While the name is fanonical, the idea that the armor can upload a copy of Tony's brain to itself and continue as him was introduced in the miniseries Iron Man: Hypervelocity.
Only six issues long, Hypervelocity is a quick and fun read, featuring things like comatose Tony, armor AI questioning the concept of self, an underwater robot bar, and lots of high-tech battles, both physical and virtual. The first two issues introduce the last-resort brain backup that we all love to call the Avalon Protocol (itself a reference to Tony’s love of Arthurian knights), and has some real holy shit, what’s happened to Tony moments. The rest of the issues involve AI Tony avoiding the government trying to take him down, while dealing with his own technological enemies.
Of course, it's not necessary to read the comic to create for the Games! The prompt itself contains some classic angst, but feel free to flip it on its head! Tony doesn't actually need to be dead (he isn't in Hypervelocity, only comatose). So long as it's inspired by the idea of the armor continuing to function after Tony dies, it'll fit our event!
Can't believe most of us have watched Endgame without knowing that the AVALON protocol exists. We really here thinking that if Tony Stark died in battle then the suit would hit the ground like a sack of potatoes. We're really that optimistic huh
Moodboard for Status Report
Iron Man is a superhero, but Tony Stark is only human. And sometimes, what is asked of a superhero is more than a human can give. So Tony makes contingency plans. He makes the AVALON protocol. He makes sure that Iron Man is able to help the Avengers even when human Tony Stark… can’t.
Warnings: MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH, HEAVY ANGST, self-sacrifice, Avalon protocol
