So when in the Avatar State, the Avatar absorbs all the knowledge of their past lives, but as far as I know (I haven’t read the Kyoshi books yet so this may be wrong) we don’t know how it works. I imagine it as the past lives telling the current Avatar what to do.

So basically what I’m saying is that whenever Aang or Korra pre-Book 2 goes into the Avatar State during a fight there’s a whole bunch of

“Punch them”

“With a rock, you’re the Avatar, bend”

“Just kill them”

“Kyoshi nO”

before they actually know what to do.

Gryffindor, most likely. I could see her being in any of them, but I think Gryffindor is most likely for her.

What would they do for the birthday of someone important to them?

Depends on what the person likes. She wouldn’t want to throw them a huge party if they didn’t want a party, but she wouldn’t not throw one if they wanted one. So she’d figure out what the person likes and go from there — so for one person, it may be she throws a party for them, but for someone else, she just spends the night with them.
