I wanted to tell a little story about Arma and Rex, especially Rex.
At the very begining I only wanted Arma onboard. At the time where there was only him struggling to survive, @ember-menia started to plan and write a fic, and we bounced ideas off of one another. The idea was to take Bradford during those 20 years of surviving on his own somewhere, and introduce chryssalids and their way of reproduction.
The idea was that he ended up at the center of his own colony, built by chryssalids underground, supervised by ADVENT. And then one day an advent soldier gets dragged down there for breeding as well. We had this whole story prepared for the Advent, and at some point I offered her to take Arma and reboot him for this story. So Canon (her version of arma in her fic) was born, and we continued to plan things.
At some point, we thought “what if an officer was dragged down there as well? with the balances of power being so different, Canon would be above him, that could be interesting!” and so we started thinking about this captain and his dynamic with Canon. As per Tygan’s autopsy names, he was named Bishop, and the more I thought about it the more I wondered what Bishop would give, rebooted into my world. Having another hybrid for Arma sounded pretty nice.
And then I found this event about a lone ADVENT left underground in game. I immediately wanted to adopt him, and I thought about Bishop, so I asked Ember if I could take Bishop and reboot him in my world, a bit like we did for Arma/Canon. So she gave me her baby, and I made Rex with him. :)
All of that just to say, there is a bit of Arma in Canon, and a bit of Bishop in Rex. Technically yes, Arma and Rex are mine, and Canon and Bishop are Ember’s, but their roots are very much the same. So people that gently source the characters (Manda, I’m looking at you there, thanks for bothering! :D) and people that think Rex is entirely mine, now you know the origins. :)
I wasn’t trying to hide it or anything, I didn’t really think about it, but it’s only fair to give credits to the creators, even if in our case we were two. At least now you know that we were two! ;)
