#FYC Starfleet Academy Season 1! Nahla *chancellor casual* costume highlights. A mix of bias-cut, drapey, delicious, silks, leather, linen and tissue thin jersey knits in putty earth tones. Majority of Nahla’s closet was made up of custom built wide leg pants, Rick Owens knits, and custom tops. “It has a full arc and evolution. I equate the dress to Bruce Willis’ tank top in ‘Die Hard.’ It’s actually not a dress, it’s built in 5 parts. I built them all separately so the directors could get as many takes and multiples as possible. It’s a lace shirt, a corset, a sash, lining and an overskirt. I was pretty neurotic about it. I had flow charts and spreadsheets. I went line by line over the things that happen to Samara and reverse engineered how to create a dress that would photograph all these things beautifully and thoughtfully. Things like the lace were really deliberate. The directors loved lace specifically, because lace really picks up gore and blood and texture on camera. The dress represents the patriarchy, really, and [in this case] the unraveling of it. She’s a total feminist badass. I’ve only ever designed things with strong female or queer-identified leads. I signed on to this script as soon as I read it, because I loved her so much.

Nus is very much a pirate/biker/dandy/deranged swashbuckler and someone I’ve always thought would be friends with Karl Lagerfeld if they were alive at the same time, on the same planet. As Nus’ arrogance grows so does his jewelry, hence the gauntlets continuing from his rings. I normally have a phobia of pyramid studs when it comes to the future but I loved the idea of metal growing through his shoulders which also disguised the commonality of them. I became enamoured by some images I came across of leather and textiles that looked mossy and moldy. bon.bonstyle our textile arts key experimented with puff screen printing on top of different textures to get the look I wanted. How do you make an alien look moldy, mossy and ostentatious? Turns out screen printing over metallic copper…

FYC Creative Arts Emmys startrek STARFLEET ACADEMY SEASON 1: Episode 109, 300th Night. For outstanding fantasy/sci-fi costumes. Genesis played by bellashepard was described by team_karim in this costume as a space baddie. The ultimate compliment💫 ottolinger Grey vest rickowensonline tshirt isaboulder sweater I cut into arm warmers and neck buff blumarine leather pants rombautofficial boots customized by our incredible build team lead by monbonnnnn Darem played by georgehawkins ended up being one of my fav costumes of the episode but not without some fedex strike heartbreak first. I had ordered a ton of gorgeous pieces for George and Sandro which never showed. I wanted George’s costume to have depth and detail to complement his character. I ended up having kaitlynfifi buy several t-shirts in a variety of abstract prints and textures to then harvest panels to make something less pedestrian. I knew that with a neutral baseline of different tones bon.bons_style could then unify it into something quite beautiful. It’s not everyday that Chenille translates into a sci-fi appropriate T-shirt but that’s what I loved so much about designing Star Trek and the culture of the show.
