Hi, I’m curious about your vivisection headcanon.

HI HELLO YES!!!

for me it boils down to the base concept of his body not being his own, it is and always has been a failure that needs to be corrected (also why i love transmasc sanji so much but this post isn't about that.) his childhood is filled with violence, he was made to be violent, so he must be fixed with violence. but it never works. they must cut him open again and again and again until it is proven that he is utterly useless, still clinging to his dead mother, still clinging to his love of cooking, his skin utterly weak and human. he is not his brothers, he is not his sister, he is the failure and so his wounded body is cast down into the dungeons with a helmet on its head to prove to the world that he never really existed, he was just the ruined child that could never be fixed.

i also just love the horror of his body constantly being violated, he does not understand why all he knows is that he was born wrong and must be corrected. but he never is, and that is naturally his fault. if he was like his brothers this would not be happening to him, his father would love him, and he would be valued. but he is not (and he should not be!) but germa doesn't care about that, they just want the weapon that he was supposed to be

sanji wears one of his normal aprons but once zoro comes on screen the next shot of sanji has a "Kiss The Cook" apron on

hi i love your vivisection sanji ive always thought they wouldve cut him open to try and 'fix' him so its awsome (not awsome for sanji) to see that other people think the same

you cannot convince me that they would've have tried to fix him, to turn him into what he was made to be but didn't turn out as because of his mother's sacrifice. and obviously vivisection is a very violent and extreme way to do that but germa is violent and extreme!!! it's expectations formed into a spear and if you do not fulfill them it will pierce you through until you do! they cut him open again and again and search for how to fix him but they never find it because he doesn't need to be fixed but of course judge doesn't see it that way, all he sees is a soldier that his wife ruined and so he locks him away once she's gone so he doesn't have to look at his failure ever again

that's wonderful that's beautiful!!! i love that comic so much, especially the frame where sanji turns around bc the way his head it tilted and the stylization of the scar and his almost malnourished-looking frame it's just oughhh

i love that you made it sanuso too bc if it was revealed in a manner like that, just an accidental intrusion as opposed to sanji getting wounded or the scar reopening (which i was chatting with @questionable-method about on a discord server we share with a few others) i can totally see usopp reacting like that, sharing his own scars that while not from a horrific violation are still potentially an immense source of shame for him!!! they both struggle deeply with self-hate and lack of self-worth so i think that was a really amazing way to explore it!!!

and you and everyone else can bet your asses that i'm gonna be trying to draw my own vivisection sanji stuff when i get my replacement tablet, i'm just in a bit of a waiting period with that rn lmao, plus i need to get back into the swing of drawing after like a year and a half without doing it regularly or at all for the most part

vivisection asks then!! how do u think he feels abt them? physical discomfort/issues included! do the other strawhats know anything about it? if they do, when/how?

he's def ashamed of it, it's a constant reminder of where he came from and why he was hated there! even if his feelings about germa have evolved over time from wanting to be like his siblings and win judge's love to realizing "wait, that shit was fucked up and i shouldn't aspire to any of it" it still undoubtedly has scarred him for life (literally!!!)

it's also a physical representation of his weakness, if he was just stronger he could've avoided all of it, right? obviously that's not the case, he was a child, he was strapped down to a table as grown adults cut him open and dug around inside him to fix something that should have never been seen as a problem in the first place. but sanji is very much the type of guy to blame himself for shit given how his childhood was! even if he logically knows all of this he would still have the feeling that it's his fault since he was told for so long that he is the issue, he s weak and all of that is why he suffers

i think he hides it (and the other scars i hc him as having, like stuff from his brothers' abuse and also a branding since i'm a sucker for that too) with his suits, only taking them off when bathing, having a swim shirt at the ready if they have some down time. he can't let the others know he was that weak, he can't let them see it and ask questions that might lead them to finding anything out about germa

and in terms of physical discomfort he'd def have chronic pain issues with it, you don't get cut open a bunch during your childhood and walk away fine! from my own experience with/knowledge of scars and chronic pain i'd imagine it acts up more during storms and when it's humid or cold and whatnot, the weather irritates the scar tissue. i think he'd be decent at just powering through it, he has a lot of experience with that during his childhood, after all. i think there could def be times where it gets too much and he can't deal, either not being able to get up in the morning at all or collapsing while forcing himself to keep working. chopper is def putting a stop to that shit asap when he joins

as for the other strawhats knowing, i said in the comments of my first post about it being chopper since he and kureha did surgery on his back on drum island (and don't get me started on how he'd feel about that, his body being violated in that way once again, even if it was in order to save his life. i loveee medical trauma sanji!) for everyone else i'm undecided but i have fics in the work about a few scenarios i've imagined!

do you think there were lasting effects on sanji even until the present from vivisection? other than, of course, the medical trauma (thinking about it, chopper mustve had difficulty doing check-ups on the guy ouh, unless we take the path where sanji’s too complicit)

for lasting effects, definitely chronic pain since it's pretty severe scarring, especially with how i imagine the vivisections to have been a pretty regular thing while he was in germa. the pain def flares up more in bad weather like storms or the cold since that inflames scar tissue and there's. so much scar tissue with that scar and it goes through all of the skin layers. though ofc he often tries to just power his way through this since he's sanji and must be Useful or he will fucking explode.

also def just extreme shame about his body? i was drawing my headcanon ref sheet last night and while adding the body hair it made me realize that it would fuck up his hair growth when on testosterone, like his happy trail wouldn't grown in properly on the scarred areas (adding my transmasc sanji headcanon in here for a sec <3) great bit of trans and human experimentation victim angst, you may be changing your body to be what you want it to be but it will never fully be yours.

with chopper's checkups i def imagine him being extremely resistant to them, like dodging and hiding and deflecting and all of that but once chopper actually gets him in the medbay he's nearly completely compliant but is also visibly holding back flinches and whatnot :( chopper has a lot on his hooves with this guy, unfort.

hmmmghn honestly i'm not sure? i mostly ignore discourse shit and whatnot but i have seen a few ppl say that sanji's second backstory was unnecessary or whatever which like. how. like it added a lot of depth to his character and recontextualized so much of his behavior and also THE FUCKING 18 IRL YEARS OF FORESHADOWING??? it does. so much for his character and honestly also just the series in general, like i do not understand why someone would think that it's pointless or whatever

i doubt this is like. an actually common complaint but it's the only one that really comes to mind bc i genuinely just do not pay attention to that kind of stuff, i focus on the fun aspects of fandom way more cu i got enough bullshit going on in my own personal life lmfaooo. thx for the ask!
