we haven’t been to Sinnoh in so long, what was wrong with it?
like i said, mostly quality of life, or the lack thereof. diamond and pearl did this fun, cool thing where every time you entered or left a gatehouse you were forced off your bike, and adding that up with every single transition between a town and a route that gets old really fast. your surf speed is even slower than your walking speed, making any aquatic travel physically painful. the engine itself was slow, too, which i know was a thing in all the gen 4 games, but it was especially bad in dp. there was this weird little pause if you got a super effective hit, then another one after the health bar was fully depleted. i think there were a couple more in other spots too but those are the ones that stood out to me, and throughout the course of a battle that adds up too, so all this amounts to a game that de-incentivises exploring and getting into the fights, two of the things pokemon sells itself on doing in the first place. and of course it took ten years to save, because every time you interacted with the PC in any way at all, the game would recalculate the checksums and whatnot for every single fucking box whether you’d even touched anything in them or not, even if they were all empty.
iirc there were also a few glitches but i can’t remember what they were off the top of my head so i’m gonna be generous and say they were minor ones.
also, if you wanted a fire type you either better pick chimchar or be a fan of ponyta because otherwise you could get fucked.
the content of the games themselves were mostly fine even if the pacing of some spots felt.. off, but the act of actually playing them was an absolute chore. a few critics have said by now that diamond and pearl are obvious betas and that impression is absolutely spot on.
the ghost gym has you do math problems, for fuck’s sake. that’s a last minute development scramble idea if i’ve ever seen one.
hgss and platinum fixed all of these things except saving taking forever, and even then iirc it’s still faster than diamond/pearl. i’m dead serious when i say that because platinum exists there is no reason to ever play diamond or pearl. just don’t. it costs zero dollars to love yourself. if you’re that desperate for a glameow or a stunky just trade one in.
there are still problems with platinum, of course (it’s easily the worst about HMs out of every game, the distortion world is a cool idea in theory but had a lacklustre execution) but the difference really does matter, even outside of obvious improvement areas like better gym design and more robust postgame content.

oh god what happened
This was like over a year ago when I was a lead, this guy and his wife and kid came in and wanted a bazillion goldfish for a 10 gallon and I tried to tell them why that wasn’t a good idea, the guy argued with me, I politely tried to explain and he got furious with me, began yelling and screaming about how I wouldn’t help him to the point where customers began to gather, then asked for a disciplinary form to fill out (???? who does that???) and got EVEN MORE IRATE when I told him that didn’t exist and he could call corporate like everyone else lol. DEMANDED this non-existent disciplinary form to file against me
It escalated, he started to threaten me when I slipped a little and appeared visibly frustrated, and then I walked away to call the cops with this man screaming after me
in front of his wife and kid
lmao.
Then in the report to corporate he lied and claimed I smashed his kid’s hands in the fish tank doors which didn’t even remotely happen and I never touched his kid but that’s how he tried to get me fired lmao. my store leader ignored it bc I had witnesses of like two other co-workers
All those co-workers are long since gone and it’s just me that remembers this man so I didn’t see him come in and was told he was in the back, bragging to my new co-worker (who didn’t know him) about how he got me fired and about the whole story then came up to check out and realized I was still there lmao
check-out was awkward because again, I would not have let him into the store again if I was still a leader, and honestly if I’d even noticed him come in I would have asked him to leave regardless
But I didn’t say anything but there was this LOOK lmao like bitch u THOUGHT
What do you look for in a good horror movie?
thats almost hard to comprehensively say because im a snob and a shithead lmao. i enjoy bad horror more than i do good, i really think, but the ideal GOOD horror is... man i cant even name a movie i would peg as the perfect horror. something aware of its camp that doesnt take itself overbearingly seriously, but isnt just PURE camp, doesnt rely wholly on gore and physical horror but also doesnt necessarily shy away from it? you know what i mean? probably not
i need the horror movie version of that candy from jimmy neutron that tasted like everything
