LOW WASTE FESTIVALS Summer is here! We are heading to #allpointseast Festival in London to see Mumford & Sons today with our trusty empty reusable water bottles, a cloth bag & cups along to avoid disposables. 💃🏻 Disappointingly, I can only see images of single use plastic cups on social media & they don't share any info on their site about waste disposal or recycling. 🙄 Not ideal, but regardless, we will do our best today & I'll definitely be in comms with organisers after the event to find out what their plans are to greenify future events. . @glastofest are making it clear that they care this year saying "Leave no trace. Reuse. Reduce. Respect." with a whole section of their site dedicated to making this happen. 🌍🙌 . Have you dodged single use items at any Summer events? . Today is a reminder of how much things can change in a short few years. When I went to concerts in the past I wouldn't have thought twice about going along with just my phone & wallet. I assumed that anything I used there would be recycled, not shipped off to Malaysia to deal with the problem or burnt. So don't be hard on yourself if you're only starting to rethink these things now. REUSABLE SANITARY PRODUCTS I’ve had quite a few questions from friends about this topic. ☺️ I’m very happy to help if you have questions too, so feel free to ask me anything. . Reusable pads can be used for 3-5 years. If you think about how many icky plastic, toxic, bleached disposable sanitary products we send to landfill (200,000 tonnes of waste per year in the UK)... it's a switch that can have a big impact. HANKIES~NAPKINS~FUROSHIKI WRAP These pretty, second hand bandanas serve many a purpose & have found a home in my bag. Why reusable cloth versions you ask? Deforestation. Trees. Animals in said trees. Water used to make paper versions. Transport & packaging of paper versions. The list goes on. Have you made this low waste swap? I usually keep a couple in my bag & if they are used during the day I chuck them in the wash basket when I get home. Hygienic, reusable & kinder to our planet. 🤗 . Uses for cloth napkins while out & about: - Wrapping fruit so it doesn't bruise - Handkerchief - Napkin when eating out - Wrapping ceramics/other purchased breakables - To save a bad hair day - Spot cleaning white trainers - Buying pastries - Waving down a cab in a movie from the fifties . Sidenote- I try to refuse napkins in restaurants, but if it's already on the table when I sit down I take it to keep in my bag because I have seen many an unused paper napkin thrown away as I leave a table. Fair enough- how is the wait staff supposed to know if I've used it?
