awallflowerstuff replied to your post: i figured out today why i haven’t been enjoying...
I feel the same way, today i saw some tweets about the new episode and i realized i didnt even know that it was coming out today, it’s losing the appeal to me and i really dont want that to happen because i just love the show so much but this season just feels different (also most of my odaat mutuals on tt are shaming me for shipping Alvareider so that’s not helping)
yeah for me max coming back last week was my tipping point for starting to feel less engaged and it’s not because i don’t like max, just like it’s not because alvareider isn’t canon (they’re not canon in the first three seasons either and those were amazing). it’s because of how they brought him back. where are the s2-style heartfelt conversations? they were so good at those! where’s the growth and development?? the wedding gave us chitchat and now they’re back together by unspoken agreement that somehow they’ll make it work since they missed each other so much??? i think it was supposed to be romantic but for me they skipped all the parts that actually come together to create romance!!
anyway i also understand your feeling shamed. there’s a whole ton of fans who are thrilled max is back and love him with pen and don’t see any changes they care about in the style or consistency and i feel like everyone who works on the show has the same perspective--they love working with ed quinn and everyone involved is having a good time and that’s all that matters to them. and that’s fine, the show is still funny, that’s all that a comedy technically needs to be comedic. but it makes me feel really far outside the fandom now, when i’m on twitter or insta, and everyone’s like swooning over the reunion or loving the new tone.
