I think it’s pretty ironic how addiction is mostly referred to with drugs and alcohol, but the mental health community suffers with addiction too, it’s just as bad, and still requires the same amount of help to overcome that addiction.
Let’s take self harm for example: people who self harm are addicts. They crave the feeling of hurting them self in some way shape or form, they are addicted to the pain. Just how a drug addicted person craves drugs. We crave the feeling of hurt.
People who suffer from eating disorders are addicted to starvation or the satisfaction of food obviously depending on their diagnosis. But they are still addicted to something one way or another.
It’s not only drugs and alcohol that can be addictive, this needs to be more recognisable amount our community outside of tumblr and other social media’s. In the real world were seen as addition seekers, because people just don’t understand. But never have I heard someone with a drug or alcohol problem be called attention seeking. Not saying that that doesn’t happen I’m sure it does, but it’s not as prominent.
Somewhere along the line someone has been hurt, traumatised ect: something has happened in order for them to do what they do. That goes for substance addictions and mental health sufferers.
Somewhere in their life they moved out of a straight navigated path and went on a rollercoaster, even if the damage we do isn’t visible doesn’t mean it’s not there.
I loved “It Isn't the Mane Thing About You” probably because it tackles a sub theme of hair loss and how it can affect people, of course Rarity took it a little too over the top (she’s Rarity afterall!!!) . I showed this to my mom who had lost her hair due to chemo and she said this episode hit home for her.
