The Awesome 2 Story
Teddy Ted: "I first met Eric B and he brought us this record [“Eric B Is President”] and he asked us to help him and I listened to it in the headphones and was like, “Alright, I’ll play it now,” ‘cause it sounded dope. So when Rakim later said, “Teddy Ted and Special K was the first ones to play it,” [in “Remember That”] that’s what he meant. We played it on the radio too, but we played it first in the Latin Quarter." More talk about radio days with Teddy Ted and Special K over at RBMA.

Legendary audio from the first Awesome 2 broadcast after the tragic passing of Boogie Down Productions' Scott La Rock on August 27, 1987. Contains some heavy live audio of BDP w/ KRS kicking rhymes that would appear on My Philosophy. I haven't heard this live audio anywhere else. The Awesome 2 also speak on Scott La Rock, who they had just spent time with days ago.

The God Rakim, who's career at the time was very young, calls up The Awesome 2 to say what's up. Now, this is back when he had just debuted on the scene with the Eric B Is President b/w My Melody 12" out, so he had arrived with something special. The classic part is that he's calling in just like a fan to give some shout outs and send respect The Awesome 2's way. As a matter of fact, he straight up forgets the name of the Awesome 2, and when they ask him what record he made he says he's the guy that made My Melody and I Came In The Door.
How does Rakim reply when asked who broke those records first in NY? ....
"I did"

Great spontaneous moment here. The whole Stetsasonic crew call into The Awesome 2 show to let them know they're listening.
- We're getting ready to go out on tour with LL, Whodini, Public Enemy, Eric B, Doug Fresh, the whole posse man, we're going RAMBO man, taking the Brooklyn show on the road.
Also, a female assistant of the show takes a shot at somebody who called in...
- To the kid who called and told me he was LL Cool J and wanted to say hello to E Love... have a better imitation next time.
