Aggressive Retsuko Spoilers + TMI
I was accidentally thinking a bit too much about Aggressive Retsuko today. Specifically, I like that the Out of Pocket Prince looks like Retsuko’s perfect match (another red panda) but so thoroughly isn’t.
But what about Haida, who we’re positioned to think is going to be a good match for Retsuko; a Hyena?
So I went and checked out some quick and nasty Hyena facts. They’re famous symbols for being cowardly and scavengers, when actually they hunt and are notoriously brave when defending kills. Spotted hyenas (which I think Haida is - check out those cheeks) are also very intelligent. That fits Haida well. And I felt a bit bad for my friend who ships Fensuko, but felt a new confidence in my Haida as boyfriend theories.
And then it hit me. The TMI from the back of my brain, of long ago witnessed nature doco. Hyenas (again, especially spotted Hyenas) are famously matriarchal. Lady hyenas tend to be aggressive and domineering, and they have giant labia/clitorises that act as pseudo-penises. TL;DR Haida and Retsuko make sense coz Haida’s gonna be a goddam sub for Retsuko and love every minute of it.
