Guys, I’m so proud of this — my first digital drawing! It took so long to finish— probably 35 hours or so — because I had to learn every feature of the software as I went. I fucked up many, many times, but here it is, finally!
It feels weird to ask, but I would be so happy if you would reblog this if you like it, because I really want people to see it!
(There’s a short description of my first experience with digital below the cut if anyone is interested.)
I used a screenshot as reference for Daniel and traced the outline of the face + the general proportions placement of nose, eyes and ear. Also did a rough trace of a stock photo lamp post and then modified it a bit, because fuck spending time on a lamp post. Base reference of leaning figure was a postcard of some noir type detective with a ridiculous hat.
The most difficult part? The goddamn position of Armand’s feet and legs. I also cursed the fact that the reference picture shows Daniel on a street where he’s hit by at least three light sources, and how difficult it was to marry that fact with this style.
Layers are great, but I still hate them. Vector layers are the worst. Fear of merging layers is also the worst, and I still don’t know how the selection layer works. In general, figuring out what all the tools do was tricky since they’re not exactly self explanatory.
I’d say the biggest problem for me over all was that I found it very difficult to guess exactly how visible tiny imperfections would be in the end result. Probably spent way too much time worrying about pixels, wishing they weren’t square.
This is Amadeo. He is twenty years here… and drunk off his ass. He also has the world’s tightest hose and no shirt. He tried to clean upp his mess, okay, but he had to accept defeat.
He’s also a bit blurry, but that’s my fault for making him 5 inches tall and then trying to take his photo.
(Very grateful for the reblogs. It makes me very happy when people see my doodles. Thank you!)
