Each one of us is what he pursues and cares for. In everyday terms, we understand ourselves and our existence by way of the activities we pursue and the things we care of.
Martin Heidegger, The Basic Problems of Phenomenology (Studies in Phenomenology & Existential Philosophy).
The failure of people to recognize that a system of beliefs is meant to enhance life, and is not supposed to be a flawless directive in and of itself,is the source of many a historical tragedy. It’s why our fears and fighting spirit that made us resilient through life in the natural world turned us against our fellow man in the form of hateful bigotry. It’s why the Christian faith that promoted kindness and gave people comfort in the face of death was turned into a justification for genocide time and time again. It’s why the tool of fair exchange that has given us medicine and beauty and autonomy has so often also turned to corrupt those things, in the name of earning the most money rather than bringing the most real value to this world.
C. M. Kösemen put it better than I ever could've, in the ending of All Tomorrows:
"Even now, it is sickeningly easy for beings to get lost in false grand narratives, living out completely driven lives in pursuit of non-existent codes, ideals, climaxes and golden ages. In blindly thinking that their stories serve absolute ends, such creatures almost always end up harming themselves, if not those around them. To those like the misguided; look at the story of Man, and come to your senses! It is not the destination, but the trip that matters. What you do today influences tomorrow, not the other way around. Love Today, and seize All Tomorrows!"
I wish we all knew how to use our tools better. Does anyone know the way forward?
Plato was wrong because: Conceptual abstractions do not precede, and are not "more real" than, instantiated physical entities.
Plato was right because: Conceptual abstractions are better and more important than instantiated physical entities.
Our values allow us to build up past the world into which we were born. That's the power of humanity.
When Ludwig Wittgenstein said “Don’t, for heaven’s sake, be afraid of talking nonsense! But you must pay attention to your nonsense.”
But again when he said "Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent."
The paradox in me smirked.
This is an important highlight why history matters. There's a reason why we delve into the past- not so we could drown in it but so we could truly learn from it. #Repost @deeninspire • • • • • • Adab (Justice) and Akhlaq (Morality) in this deen is not something that is socially constructed. Etiquette is often culturally and socially constructed, thus adab is not etiquette. It is knowledge that is passed through history, generation by generation, going back to the Prophet ﷺ, who was taught adab from God ﷻ. Thus the knowledge of adab comes from revelation. It is the knowledge of knowing what to do suitably and at what time, using wisdom. That is the definition of adab: bestowing bounty in its proper place. This bestowing if bounty in its correct place, is also the definition of justice. Akhlaq, is not only sound character, but its an internalising of the adab in building an ethical and moral character, as per revelation. This also is understood through historical events, judgements, ethical frameworks and contexts to understand the underlying principles. Such principles are timeless. This is why, for me, without historical knowledge, there is no moral compass. #islam #iman #ihsan #zaman #theology #understanding #axiology #eschatology #philosophy #law #aesthetics https://www.instagram.com/p/CHn7sjoBbj6cciLK3HocAP_8maV9rsimh7lrrU0/?igshid=1tjw27qk7g4uk

Axiology is vegan, non-toxic, and very very low footprint product. Founder Ericka Rodriguez is one badass on a mission, who started messing with vegan lip formulas in her living room in order to make something she herself would truly love and wear … Axiology was borns and has grown to the “100% evil free” indie brand she helms today, including best-in-class lip color and lots of other beauty must-haves.
For some reason I really only get inspired to bust out a true lip color come Fall … and it has to be some form of red. Ericka’s rich offering has some bomb shades and, even better, comes in a truly recycled package (lipstick packaging is notoriously hard to do in an eco-friendly way).
The Infinite shade by Axiology is rich mulberry stain with a touch of black - not in a witchy way, in a way that makes the pigment really pop. The Bonafide Lipstick by Axiology is a unique firey pink/red that builds really beautifully from a blotted stain look to a creamy full-coverage almost-red look that’s perfect if you want to keep it ever so slightly subtle.

The Three Areas of Philosophy Directly Influence Teaching, Theory, and Practice: 1) Metaphysics (What is real?); 2) Epistemology (How do we know?); 3) Axiology (What is right?)
