"Best Buddies"

Working with such a friendly and supportive team has been a great experience. I'm really happy to be part of this group when we learn from each other and share valuable information. We've had a lot of fun along the way, and I especially appreciate the opportunity to learn from different perspectives.

On day three, we had virtual meetings with fellow interns in the DCAMM. They shared their experience and discussed the different between private and public work cultures. The best opportunity of the day was the Lynn District Court design project meeting. This meeting includes project designer from Leers Weinzapfel Associates, engineers, contractors, project managers, the director of courts and professionals form various sectors. The discussion centered on the client's needs, with a strong emphasis on creating a safe environment a key priority in the design. They reviewed every detail, including cross-circulations for shared paths of travel for staff, detainees, and the public, as well as materials and operational issues.

I learned that a successful designer must not only focus on creativity but also deeply understand and prioritize of the project and the client's needs and want to ensure a successful project.

It Looks Like Massive!!!

We start our second day with a walking tour of the DCAMM buildings, guide by Brenda and Healy, who are interning with DCAMM this summer. During the tour, we explored the McCormack Building, the Mental Hospital, and Courthouse, learning many new things along the way. Some of these buildings were massive structures I hadn’t realized even existed.

Later, we attended overview meetings for each sector, including sessions with the Real Estate / P3 team, the Office of planning monthly team meeting, and the office of design and construction. DCAMM manages over 1,700 state properties, handling tasks such as maintenance, replacement, renovation, and consolidation. Lunch with the OP team was a great opportunity to share information and gain insight into their personal perspectives on work.

Workplace of exploration!!!!!

On very first day of my Externship had a great opportunity to learn more about the workplace culture and new experiences. The office of DCAMM was usually quiet on Mandy and Friday during summer time. But we were meets and greets some of the team leaders and members from zoom meeting this morning.

The office itself is very open with fantastic views of Harbor, Back Bay and Charles river from 15 floors. Our mentor Ms Brenna tour the DCAMM campus. Then we walked around to the State House, but we didn’t have a chance to go into the State House because of no power. But Ms. Brenna walks around and explains about the project of the State House.
