Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Taken on 09/07/2020. Aymavilles, situated at 646 meters above sea level on the right bank of the Dora Baltea river, right at the entrance of Cogne Valley, offers a varied and well-cultivated landscape in which vineyards and apple orchards seem to embrace the castle that dominates the whole territory. Speaking of the castle, its four characteristic cylindrical towers were added to the existing central body by Aimone of Challant halfway through the 14th Century. In around 1730, Baron Giuseppe Felice of Challant built the arcades between the towers and eliminated many defence features, giving the interior a Baroque appearance. When the Challant family line had come to an end, the castle had several owners until 1970, when it was purchased by the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley; it is currently undergoing restoration works in order to be opened to the public. Last but not least, owing to its favourable location, Aymavilles is where the red wine Torrette is produced. It's great to have even in July because the summers are quite comfortable in Aosta Valley.
