Engulfed in Memories to Share with Mesa Verde National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views across cliff dwellings present at the Spruce Tree House in Mesa Verde National Park. This is from an overlook walk while I began hiking the Petroglyph Point Trail. My thought on composing this image was to capture of you of the cliff dwellings and have them run across the image center. I've pulled back a little more on the focal length so that I could include some of the trees and nearby surroundings as a foreground interest and have a layered look beyond. The cliff wall above was also important as it added to the setting and story for how the Ancestral Puebloan people would have to go up and down the walls to get to those dwellings.

My Vote Is For a Beautiful Nature (Capitol Reef National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views across varying desert landscape present while walking along the Sunset Point Trail in Capitol Reef National Park. My thinking in composing this image was to use a portion of high ground at that overlook and angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward to create more of a sweeping view across the setting leading up to the cliffs and monocline off in the distance. In the image center, there would be a little bit of the peaks with Mount Ellen and the Henry Mountains range. The blue skies and clouds would be that color contrast to complement the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image.

One of 62 Ways to Beat Stress and Feel Great in Great Sand Dunes National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A view looking down and across to the southeast while on a high point sand dune ridge not far from High Dune in Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve. By angling my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward, I felt I was better able to capture that sweeping view looking down across the sand dunes to the dried up Medano Creek and then the ridges and peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Range.

Best Friday Day Ever! (Denali National Park & Preserve) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A view looking to the southeast while on a bus ride to the North Face Lodge. These were unnamed peaks and ridgelines of the Alaska Range in Denali National Park not too far from crossing Sable Pass. While seeing mountains are always a draw for me, what I wanted to capture with this image was the way the ridgelines and spurs crisscrossed each other adding a layering to the national park landscape. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLabs 3 that I’d recently purchased after moving away from Capture NX2.
