Getting the Most of the Katmai National Park Experience by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I captured this image at the Falls Platform with a view looking to the southeast and downstream with the Brooks River to this one bear just sitting in the river and probably hoping for some morning salmon! By pulling back on the focal length to include more of the surrounding forest and distant mountains, I felt I was better able to capture this setting of nature and wildlife in Katmai National Park.

Almost a Ring of Fire! by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a city park on the western side of San Antonio with a view looking to the southeast at an almost “ring of fire” eclipse present in the skies above. Given the clouds present and filtering much of the brighter sunlight, I decided to take the filter I had been using off my Nikon SLR camera. That allowed me to capture some of the clouds present, but still being able to later bring out the sun and moon portion of the eclipse in the image.

We Can’t Always Share Experiences in Life with Another by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: We Can’t Always Share Experiences in Life with Another So we have to enjoy the moments while we can Alone, if we must; together, would be nice But still go out and per chance dance with sun Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one morning in the San Antonio area while taking in view of the April 2023 annular solar eclipse. The view is looking to the southeast during the ring of fire portion. To capture this image, I watched this video on YouTube for notes (www.youtube.com/watch?v=275onafcdCY&list=WL&index...). I used my Nikon D850 SLR camera with a Nikon - AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5 -5.6G ED VR and a Thousand Oaks Optical solar filter I had ordered several months prior. The way I exposed the image was to set my camera in M mode, use an f/5.6 aperture, put the ISO from AUTO and dial it up to 3200 (making finer adjustments later), and a shutter speed of 1/125. Given partly cloudy skies I was looking at to see this, shutter speed was lower than I had expected but using a tripod with camera remote helped with any longer exposures. Needless to say, I am so ready for April 2024 when I plan on using a Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD!
