Under Skies of Blue Along the Blue Ridge Parkway by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking around the Lower Otter Creek Overlook area with a view looking up and to the south at nearby tree. This is at a roadside pullout along the Blue Ridge Parkway. My thinking in composing this image was to capture the height looking from about my shoulder level to the tree crown caught in the sunlight of the afternoon sun. The rest was metering the image so as to not blow any of the highlights in the upper portions and tree crown while still being able to pull out the more shadowed areas later in post production.

Sweeter than a Sunset Sky (Jasper National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While sitting and taking in a sunset view long the shores of the Athabasca River as a place I was staying around the Jasper, Alberta area. The setting is with a look to the south. My thought on composing this image was to pull back on the focal length and capture a sweeping view as the river waters flowed by. I decided to include some of the nearby trees and bushes as foreground interest and help bring out more of a layered look from near to far I also wanted to include some of the ridges and peaks of the Trident Range as well as Mount Edith Cavell, which had that warm red glow from the setting sun.

Just a Typical Walk in the Mountains of Nevada Amongst the Bristlecone Pines (Great Basin National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: Along the Bristlecone Grove Trail of Great Basin National Park with a view looking to the south at some nearby bristlecone pine trees while looking up a mountainside. A few things that I wanted to line up while composing this image was to use the snow field going up the mountainside as kind of a leading line. The broken up rocks along the mountainside also helped, in my mind, to channel the view looking up. Then there was the way the ridges seemingly criss-crossed each other leading up to that peak. Lastly evergreen and bristlecone pines were scattered in the grove further up the trail.

Seeing What Is Beautiful in Pinnacles National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Jawbone Trail with a view looking south to other pinnacle formations in this part of Pinnacles National Park. My thought on composing this image was to take advantage of what I felt was a layered look to this national park setting. Nearby would be some tall grasses, leading up to more distant trees and forest, and finally the ridges and peaks that included the namesake pinnacle, volcanic formations.
