Josie, what’s on your mind?
Oh nothing, just Gwyn and Azriel and their silent communication.
"Done," Gwyn declared, the white ribbon fluttering in the wind where it hung from the beam. The shadowsinger crossed his arms, angling his head, but remained in his half of the ring.”
“He nodded to Gwyn and Emerie, the former glancing toward Azriel, who watched in silence.
Gwyn again glanced to Azriel, who drifted closer.”
…
I always think about this scene when it comes to them. I don’t know if this counts as a theory, but based on this interaction, I think Azriel and Gwyn spent time together before the beam and ribbon went up. And that time spent together was researching and discussing Valkyrie training.
The scene also starts with Nesta questioning how the beam was even set up. I think Azriel is the one who put it up!
Hunt and Bryce:
“His lightning flowed into her like a river, and he could have sworn he heard a beautiful sort of music between their souls…”
Azriel and Gwyn:
“Azriel entered the warmth of the stairwell, and as he descended, he could have sworn a faint, beautiful singing followed him. Could have sworn his shadows sang in answer.”
Your misogyny and hypocrisy makes you ugly but I shouldn’t expect anything less from a barb. Your fave married a pedophile long before she started publicly being MAGA. Gwyn deserves better fans than people like you.
First off, my pfp was Megan Thee Stallion, before I changed it to the faceless woman I have now!
Yes it used to be Minaj, but as soon as she started to show her true colors I changed it. That was months ago, mind you.
Not a barb. Hadn’t kept up with her in years, found out she married a pedophile at the same time I found out she was maga.
And misogyny? Hypocrisy? Thats some bold accusations coming from an anon lmaooo. Fck outta here 🤣
The amount of racism suddenly springing up on this side of the fandom is concerning.
Art imitates life. There will always be realism within the escapism you use to dismiss your ignorant ass takes. “They’re fake” isn’t a justification when these characters, these events, these issues, are things we deal with when we put the books down.
Also, ignoring how uncomfortable you’ve made the poc in our fandom feel, proves the point exactly.
Disgusting behavior and disgusting takes. YUCK.
how are you gonna spend years calling Emerie's whole storyline unimportant, unrealistic, over, etc just because you don't want her friend to end up with a guy and then act like we're the ones who mistreat her?
i stg #they only view women of color as a token and nothing more and it shows in the way they treat emerie, vassa, and the twins
elriel has musical imagery too genius
1 elain asks if Az can fly and he says Illyrians are born hearing the song of the wind. 2 the cauldron lures Elain with it's song to kidnap her. 3 she loves waltzing and gavrotte. 4 she gives him the earplugs on solstice.
Gw*n is irrelevant.
First of all... Did you take someone else's post and make it worse? I swear I just saw these exact four quotes. Let's think our own thoughts, hmm?
Second of all, I still didn't say anything about musical imagery regarding ships with this whole symphony thing. My post was about POVs.
And third, onto your "points":
1. This is about Azriel/Illyrians. Elain asks the question, yes, but Azriel is the one who uses musical language.
2. The "song" belongs to the Cauldron, Elain is lured by it. The song is not Elain's, so I don't really get this one. I guess if you stretch, you could say it's Elain's song because she's Cauldron-made? But then, you'd be able to say the same for Nesta and Amren too.
3. I'll give you this one to be nice, but I don't think it's particularly noteworthy that Elain, raised as a high class lady, enjoys dancing. It's nice that she does, of course, but it's not like dance is a defining hobby for her like Nesta (or Bryce, for that matter). It's gavotte btw.
4. ...I don't even know what to say about this one. How are earplugs that would block music "musical imagery"?
Finally, I'm not here to debate the importance of a character with you. If you truly think Gwyn is irrelevant, then that's your interpretation, and I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise. You always have to drag her into your shit 🙄
And, mind you, this isn't even intended to put down Elain at all. It's simply that the instances you provided don't line up with what you're trying to claim.
I’m lmaoooo, you ate them up.
There's been a bit of discourse recently around Az and Gwyn's story that I find a bit odd. It's been theorized that a large part of Az's story will revolve around him getting over Elain/pining for her, while Gwyn waits in the wings and/or pines for him while being a good friend.
That...makes hardly any sense if we consider any of SJM's previous romantic arcs and couples, and the types of romantic stories she seems to enjoy writing. It also makes no sense without the bonus chapter. Many, many people do not read the bonus chapter. Furthermore, SJM's bonus chapter have mainly been used for fun extras. Only Chaol's bonus chapter with Nesryn functions slightly differently - to hint at his future struggles and the fact that they are not end game. But it was necessary for the story we got in ToD.
But let's think about each main SJM couple and the story told with them:
1. Rowaelin. Rowaelin had a significant period of friendship before anything romantic. It defines their relationship. During this time, he was still sad of Lyria, and she was upset over Chaol, but neither one of these issues affected their romantic arc in QoS. In HoF, as just friends, they build the foundation of loyalty and trust, and it was never a situation of either of them pining while the other was still in love with someone else. They were both upset over previous relationships, but those relationships in no way affected their romantic arc, or made it unhealthy. Furthermore, we rarely got any stuff about Aelin pining for Chaol - she just didn't. Az is a different character, but unrequited love/pining just doesn't seem to be SJM's mode of story telling.
2. Feysand. Feysand also became very very good friends before their romance fully started. It was also a friendship based in helping one another and being one another's confidant. Now, while Rhys knew Feyre was his mate and certainly pined for her while she was with Tamlin, we did not have to read about it. Again, SJM is into friendship, not really into writing pining. Furthermore, Rhys was wanting Feyre, so this is not a comparable situation to Az pining for Elain while Gwyn is right there. Rhys pined for his mate. We can expect to see Az also be...really really for his mate.
3. Quinlar. Friends first, lovers second. This fits the typical SJM mold! And again, Hunt has someone in his past, Shahar, but it doesn't affect his treatment of Bryce. Bryce also has Connor. Once their romantic feelings start to develop for one another though, these relationships do not affect their romance. There is no Bryce pining for Hunt while Hunt is into Shahar and Bryce is dejected and sad. Bryce maturely considers that he might still be into Shahar and doesn't get all weird and sad about it. Nor does Hunt ever make her feel like she is second to Shahar.
4. Nessian. Their foundation is less friendship and more based on mutual admiration of the other, and their banter. But still, this relationship really exemplifies what SJM loves to write: sparks. Chemistry. Banter. Electric exchanges.
5. Chaorene. Chaol literally is with Nesryn when he MEETS YRENE. And still doesn't let that affect his treatment of Yrene. Nesryn and Chaol split up, she falls in love, he does too, and neither one of them mopes around for the other or makes it unhealthy.
Why can't Elriel have the lil moment they did have, decide it wasn't worth it or right, and then decide to move on healthily? Why do yall assume SJM will make us read 300 pages of Az lusting for Elain while Gwyn loves him from afar?? Why assume that the QUEEN OF FRIENDS TO LOVERS and MEN STANNING THEIR WIVES would write a story in which Gwyn is subjected to that pain?
Gwyn and Az will likely be friends first, and as with literally every couple above aside from Nessian, they will work through their issues before beginning a romantic relationship.
Az has a LOT to deal with. But imo it isn't specific to being in love with Elain. It's about the way he projects his insecurities and desire for love onto women and thus objectifies them. It's about how he treated Mor and Elain, and about why he treated them that way. Not about his actual feelings for either of them. Az will likely need to work on that before him and Gwyn get together. And he will likely think a bit about Mor and Elain, and he will likely feel sad over them.
But what wont be happening is Gwyn sitting there helping him deal with all of this while she has all these feelings for him. It's more likely that Gwyn and Az, together, will help one another with their problems...TOGETHER. Gwyn has never been in love. Az has also never been in love, either, tbh. Gwyn has never had a long term relationship of love and sex and trust. Neither has Az. They are both well positioned to understand the other's pain. But it does not mean Gwyn is going to be in love with Az while he still wants Elain. I mean what even? I'm sure she won't realize she even has feelings for him until the middle of the book!! Like it's an 800 page long romance novel.
Also, why would SJM write a story about Az in which he pines over Elain, when his mate is right there, if Az's whole thing is that he wants a mate like Cass and Rhys? Why would she do that to him?? It doesn't make sense given how she's written every other couple.
Finally, there's so much discourse about characters deserving to be a first choice etc. Literally no main ship SJM has written, aside from Nessian, has the characters as each other's "first" choice. Feyre had Tamlin. Aelin had Chaol. Rowan thought he had a literal mate. Hunt had Shahar. Chaol loved Aelin and had feelings for Nesryn before Yrene. There is no reason why Az cannot want Elain, decide it's actually not right for him and then have a healthy relationship with someone else. It doesn't make Gwyn a second choice.
Honestly past me popped off with this I was so right
The way this is still an argument we deal with to this day. Literally 5 years later. And you popped off with this!
Day 1,465 of Elriels using Emerie as a tool to make us look bad.
Weren’t yall the ones saying she’s irrelevant? I also haven’t seen yall contribute much Emerie content to the fandom. And when you do, it’s to push your Elriel agenda. Once again you are using Emerie as a tool to push your narrative.
Please don’t ever open your mouth on the subject again, you’re embarrassing yourselves.
The funniest thing is Sarah knows about the "This isn't Glee thing", she knows how e/riels try to mock the musical imagery etc. and even after that she's choosing all this musical imagery...🤭🤭 The gleeriel winning is that obvious 🤭
I agree “a movement in four parts” is in reference to the structure of the story.
But after Sarah has said “music inspires 90% of what I write” and gave us musical imagery for Nessian’s mate bond, and for Gwyn and Azriel’s connection,
It makes sense to associate the wording with Gwynriel. Why even call it a “movement” and give us “💖🎶💖” if you weren’t trying to imply something??
It’s common sense that it’s associated with Gwynriel. Especially considering movements do involve singers. If you knew anything about music.
Why are some of you being shady af?
Let us live.
Cue the Elriels fighting for their lives to use musical imagery for their ship.
Cue Elriels trying their hardest to deny the musical imagery attached to Gwynriel.
Everyone buckle up, prepare yourselves!
They could never make me hate you, complex female character whose reaction to trauma was not pretty and digestible like how people think it should be.
Nesta Archeron, I will love you forever

“He could picture it, though, as he ascended the stairs back to the House proper.
How Gwyn’s teal eyes might light upon seeing the necklace. For whatever reason…he could see it.
But Azriel tucked away the thought, consciously erasing the slight smile it brought to his face. Buried the image down deep, where it glowed quietly.
A thing of secret, lovely beauty.”
Elriels trying their hardest to feed off of Gwynriel crumbs will never not be funny.
SJM in an interview: “music inspires like 90% of what I write”
Also SJM:
“Her breath curled in front of her mouth, and one of his shadows darted out to dance with it before twirling back to him. Like it heard some silent music.”
“She shrugged again, irreverently. Az narrowed his eyes, studying her. “Do you, though?” she pressed. “Sing?” Azriel couldn’t help his soft chuckle. “Yes.”
“Azriel entered the warmth of the stairwell, and as he descended, he could have sworn a faint, beautiful singing followed him. Could have sworn his shadows sang in answer.”
Also SJM: 💖🎶💖
