Another one done! I’ve been happy with how all these have turned out. I wanted to give Gwyn a design that shows a little more of her water-nymph side, I also gave her some more muscles! And buzz-cut-riel makes a return! This was the first time drawing his actual hands and tattoos so I hope I did them well enough.

What I don't want to hear are lectures from people who have shown nothing but hypocrisy. Many have continued supporting some of the nastiest people in this fandom since 2018. While I saw people on my side calling that behavior out last year, I didn't see the same support from Elriels for the artists and writers who were mistreated by members of their own community. I've never seen them rally behind Elriel artists who were bullied by other Elriels. One artist received so much backlash for drawing Elucien for fun that she had to publicly address it. Another shared screenshots after an Elriel commissioner insulted her art when working with her, she shared the DMs with multiple artist and those Discords witnessed it unfold. They even turned on one of their own fic writers, who stopped writing Elriel. None of this excuses Katie's behavior. It doesn't. But I don't want hypocritical lectures from people who participated in, ignored, or defended the same kind of behavior. When people said after last year's BB incident, "We can't be responsible for everyone," I agreed. Fandoms aren't monoliths. Shipping the same couple doesn't mean everyone shares the same values or behavior.

That same standard has to apply to us. We aren't responsible for what Katie did or for information she deliberately chose to keep from us. Accountability should be consistent, regardless of which ship someone belongs to.

So from my understanding, there’s certain people who are trying to play “morally superior” even though they’ve also known about Katie. Openly admitting they had a bad experience with Katie and “knew how she would act.” All while shitting on others for the very same thing they are guilty of.

And you know what? Throughout this entire disaster, I have not once seen anyone mention the artists and commissioners who were wronged by her, not once seen anyone show their support for these people.

Instead, you’re pointing fingers at others and making it about one ship vs the other. It’s been about tearing down others and trying to make yourself look good, especially in the eyes of Elriels. Who are honestly, no better than Katie.

Everyone who has been victimized by Katie has already spoken to those of us who are actually in their circle, who actually support them, who actually care.

And you’re dragging the situation out like a bunch of teenagers with nothing better to do. You keep going with your performative bs, and we’ll continue to show love and support to our artists and commissioners.

I said I would rather not bother my peace with this since I did my part, but let me just say this.

I don't regret extending my empathy for someone who I witnessed get publicly bullied multiple times, because that's who I am. I extend empathy to others while their intentions is their own.

And because I don't wish it upon anyone. I know what that feels like from firsthand experience in the past 5+ years. I always tried to have my friends' back and supported people who were treated unfairly and cruelly, because it can fuck you up if you didn't have a support system. Because let's not forget people receive death threats in this community and there are people that find absolute joy in harming others. And by saying that, it does not absolve Katie of what she did, I have defended countless of Gwynriels and Eluciens and other people. I don't need to make a list.

What I will not do, not now or ever, is excuse someone who screwed over co-commissioners (my friends included) and artists by not paying or treating them unfairly based on what has been shared (because I was not in spaces where those issues took place or addressed). I will never forgive her for it. As someone who has been commissioning for a long time and has wonderful friendships with artists, my stance is known so I don't even need to say this. Again, we all had different experiences with the same person and we were not aware of the issues other people have picked up on (not until it was brought up just a day ago).

Instead of supporting the commissioners who were affected by this, what I'm seeing is blame. "Guilty by association" is not a fair verdict to throw around when some of those commissioners covered the costs of someone who screwed them over. Those commissioners spent time and money wanting to give something beautiful to the community. It's human to give someone the benefit of the doubt or hope they'll do better so are you going to blame people for showing an ounce of decency and humanity? Again, it depends on your experience with that person. The topic is shifting into harassment and blame rather than focusing on how we protect those artists and commissioners and that is unfair to me.

I have nothing further to say or would rather protect my peace because everything that needed to be said and done has been accomplished.

To add:

If you have a personal score to settle with someone, if you had a bad experience with someone, you have every right to speak about your experience, but I am not your scapegoat in your angry rampage. Especially if you have not interacted with me, don't know me personally or what my own experience was or my level of interaction with other people. I don't owe you an explanation for that.

Some are also basing their accusations on assumptions that everyone knew about their experience or should've have known. That isn't a fair assumption (or rather multiple false assumptions) to make and they have no right to accuse people based on assumptions made in anger or to project their own experience on others assuming that they all saw the same side to someone. And no, I have no logical reason to give the other side the benefit of the doubt when they have actively harmed me and my friends way before Katie showed up and none of you are going to erase what was done to us over the years. You are justified in your anger at someone who caused a lot of problems, but you are not justified in directing it on a whole or propping me up as a scapegoat to make yourself feel better.

I wasn't going to say anything because this situation should have centered on the people directly affected. But after seeing so much misinformation, I feel like something needs to be said.

To be clear: Katie's actions are her responsibility. Not paying artists is unacceptable and no commissioner or friend should be expected to defend or excuse that.

What I do want to address is the narrative that everyone around her knew everything and stayed silent. Many of us handled our own experiences privately and believed the issues we personally dealt with had been resolved. Speaking privately about your own situation is not the same as knowingly covering for someone else's behavior.

A lot of us only learned the full extent of what was happening recently, when multiple artists and commissioners came forward publicly. That's why you're seeing more people speak now. It's not because anyone suddenly decided accountability mattered, it’s because the bigger picture wasn't known to everyone.

Please stop blaming every person who was friends with, commissioned by, or associated with Katie. Being connected to someone does not mean you knew everything they were doing behind the scenes and it certainly doesn't make you responsible for their choices.

Hold Katie accountable for what Katie did. Don't turn this into a hunt against people who had no involvement in her actions. Accountability is important, but so is directing it at the person actually responsible.
