I HEARD SOMEONE ( @meeludrawz ) RAISE THEIR HAND AND HONESTLY I REALLY ONLY WANTED ONE PERSON TO SAY THEY WANTED TO SEE THIS SO!
Father-Son Bonding 💜
"Hey papa?" A little voice popping up right next to him interrupted Donnie's train of thought. He slowly turned his head to the side and down. Through the lenses of his goggles he could see the big nervous eyes.
"Yes, son?" He replied blankly, turning off the welder in his hand. "Can you look?" Adamo's hand stretched out with a piece of notebook paper. A small frown appeared in those eyes as he held it up high enough for his dad to take it. The paper came up to Donnie's elbow.
He raised an eyebrow at the boy. "Where's your mother?" He said, taking the paper from his tiny fist anyway. "I don' need help with letters.." Adamo nearly whispered. Even though Donnie had turned back to his desk to read the paper, he could feel those multicolored pupils staring him down. Or up, rather. "Don't. Tuh. Don't." Donnie corrected, keeping his eyes down. Adamo perked up and looked at his dad with a wider stare. "D-..Don..'t. Don't. Pa!" He pattered his right hand on Donnie’s leg repeatedly. He set a hand on his toddler's head and ruffled the lack of hair there. Then he turned in his chair to face him with the paper in his hand. With a flick of his hand the goggles went up to his head. "You have contractions." Donnie held the paper back out to Adamo.
The boy frowned. "Nuh uh. I don... I don't wanit to be formal." He lightly pushed Donnie's hand back towards him. Another raise of his eyebrow caused Adamo to stick out his tongue in a distaste of sorts. "Son, you do know my brain works in formal mode, correct?" Donnie questioned. He flipped the paper around to look at it again. "Why did you write this if not for homework?" His words along with his squinted expression made Adamo giggle a bit. "I'm not writing in school yet, papa!" He set his tiny hands on his father's forearm and leaned in to look at what he was looking at. "Oh. I suppose you're right." Donnie concluded quickly. "Forgive me. Sometimes your brilliance that he passed onto you confuses your old dad." He poked his son's cheek gently. Adamo squealed happily.
Donnie let a small grin settle on his face. "Why did you write this, then?" He handed the paper back to his son. Adamo took it, finally seeming to accept the lack of correction. "I wanded to write sumthin for pop." He gripped the paper a bit tighter with his itty bitty hands.
“Wanted. Tees, son. Is that so?" Donnie tilted his head. "Wannn....ted. wan-ned." Adamo puffed up his cheeks. His dad just smiled. "Yea! He gave me a notebook for my birh- birhhs- birr-th-day." He never faltered. Donnie nodded. "Sounds good to me. Keep on with it, then." Donnie tapped his index finger to his toddler's forehead before turning back around to his desk to continue his work.
There was silence for a moment. A loud silence. Too loud. And not loud enough.
Donnie looked to the side to catch Adamo still looking at him. He wasn’t saying anything. Nor was he moving. Donnie’s lips thinned into a line. With a sigh, he set a tool back down. "Yes, son?" He repeated.
“…I was jus wondering if I could sit with you for a minute.." Donnie’s eyebrows went up. "Hey! You said 'minute'!" He immediately went to pick up his son and was greeted with a bright smile and a sharp laugh. "I did?!" "Mhm!" He nodded along, smiling.
He set him in his lap and went to put away the welder and pick up a screwdriver instead. "You done with the writing or do you wanna finish it?" He asked, looking down at his son looking right up at him. Instead of an answer he got another giggle.
“What's so funny?" Donnie frowned playfully. "It's 'want', papa!" Cue more loud giggles followed by Donnie’s own chuckle. "You may have gotten your brilliance from me but you definitely got your humor from your mother." He huffed and looked on to his project again.
Donnie felt Adamo jump up. "Oh! Oh! Mama has a word for that!" He pointed up at his dad, hitting his chin with his tiny pointer finger. "Oh? And what's that, son?" "Hypocrite."
