Potential Patapon spoilers, themes of grief, angst, emotional abuse below. Proceed with caution
Funny how we don't get to meet most demons the zigotons sold their souls for. But we can assume most were just power hungry so it didn't really matter who lended their powers to target Patapons..
Besides Ghoul Gate Babaan.
For some reason, out of every single person in the army who agreed to Queen Kharma's proposition (or was forced to), this demon got a whole separate level, which I find really interesting. There's probably something that separates it from others, but what could it be?
In my eyes, it's a siren. The kind of demon that jiggles keys in front of their victims and hope they fall for it. And, well, Makoton has a very obvious weak spot.
After General Gong fell, there was nobody else left to keep him in line with his grief that was eating him alive. One of the strongest soldiers in the empire, with an open wound you could easily weaponise. What more could you ask for?
I really think other demons also attempted to target Makoton, while Gong was still alive. But one mistake they've made, is assume he would be loyal to them right away, over Aiton. What did Babaan do different, then?
It didn't fight it. It worked with it.
Possibly impersonating Ai, possibly gaslighting Makoton that surely he's out there somewhere, all he has to do is get strong enough to reunite with him. Isolating him and making his hurt a hundred times worse with giving him hope he's still there, because being blinded with revenge makes him overlook all the demon signs Gong taught him.
The worst part? Scorpiton did realize he was being played at the very end.
Going into this again. Imagine trying so damn hard to fix something, just to realize in your last moments it was all a charade. Especially as he says it after Babaan died, so any comforting illusions it gave to Scorpiton went down with it. It's heartbreaking, really.
Makoton wanted to be strong, but more than anything he wanted to be strong enough to avenge Ai. To prove his death wasn't meaningless. And Babaan took advantage of that.
