In this AU, gods exist and are known to exist and are tangible and a regular part of every day human life. They are powerful, they don't die, and they, at best, see humans as a temporary form of entertainment in the long, long existences they lead.

Some gods are kinder to humans than others. These gods often have temples built around them/for them and people can worship them or join the temple to live in service to them. It's extremely common for parents of newborns to bring their infants to a god of their choosing in hopes of their child receiving a blessing.

'Blessings' are small 'gifts' a god can bestow upon a human that will linger for their whole life. It is, essentially, a very small amount of that god's power being bestowed upon the person, and when the person dies, the power returns to the god. Blessings can be small things, like a blessing to be beautiful or a blessing to be strong or a blessing to be knowledgeable. Some are more complex, like to be talented with a sword, or to have an affinity with flora and fauna.

Some people who serve a temple, whether as priests or as missionaries, may receive multiple blessings so they may serve better. The most is normally four or five. Some gods are careful with their blessings, not wanting to stretch their powers too thin- though such a thing has never happened, it is in the nature of powerful beings to be wary of losing their power. The most popular gods may have many thousands of people carrying their blessings, and not even break a sweat.

There are fables told about 'a god's favorite', a person covered in blessings from a god who's chosen them to be their hand in the world. These people would be like demigods, almost immortal, to be feared and fled from- never fought. In the small chance a regular person could best them, what do you think a god would do if they found out you dared harm their favorite?

Those are just scary stories, though. No one has actually met a god's favorite before. It's just a myth. What kind of god would be so infatuated with something as miniscule as a human being? Can you imagine! A god, in love with a person! How strange would that be.

But what if? What if there was a god long forgotten? One who's been waiting all their life, all the time the universe has existed, to meet one person? How many blessings would they give their favorite? What would that much godly power do to a human being? Would it alter them? Would looking at them hurt, in the same way it hurts to stare at the sun? Would they still be human? Would they still be themselves?

“You know…” He was still holding your hand, you realized, which made your circuits fizzle nervously. Then he leaned in a little closer, giving you an inquisitive look. You felt yourself tense, though not from fear. You weren’t sure why you tensed, now that you thought about it... “Actually... You DO look familiar. Have we met?”

You blinked, suddenly wondering if he DID remember you but just got you mixed up with every other staff-bot in the place. That… was better than being entirely forgotten, you supposed, but you still felt an old wilt of sadness at the thought. You were about to nod when he suddenly straightened, snapping his fingers.
