A bizarre group of mythical mystics that are so diverse that if it wasn’t for them having the same abilities and cultures many wouldn’t even count them as the same race. In fact, most still don’t since besides their abilities the only other thing they have in come is their body shapes, and even that is up to debate.
Gargoyle Biology
Gargoyles come in three base humanoid body types, the first and best known being gargouille who have wings, and yes they can fly, legs that end in semi-prehensile feet and a tail weapon, the second are the grotesque who have no wings, and the third is the babewyn who have neither wings or a tail, but beyond that gargoyles look very different from one another. Their arms can be in the same proportion of humans or could be as long as their legs, their hands while always ending in claws come in many different kinds of claws that deal different damage and they can have three to eight digits on them. They can one eye to ten, their skin could be like that of any living mundane lifeform or look it is made of metal or rock, and the same is truth for their hair or feathers if they have them. Then there their heads, some have human looking heads, some more animal like heads, while other have heads that can only be called monstrous. Even their wings don’t match up as they can any kind of wings known to exist, even ones that look mechanical in nature. And they can all kinds of extra bits like horns, antlers, spikes, spines, quills, fins, antenna, tentacles, and many, many other things. And while most are about 2.1336m(7ft) tall, they can and often do come smaller and bigger types. Yet despite they do have the same development and live cycle, the females lay a stone like egg that takes about two years to hatch, they reach adult hood at about 90 and can live to be about 200 or more depending on the medical care they can get. They are nocturnal and while they are lithovore omnivores they prefer meat and rocks over plants. They also have the following abilities:
Petrification Venom: All gargoyles have a venom that when injected will turn its victims in to some kind of rock, the kind of rock as well as the time it takes varies per gargoyle.
Immune: Gargoyles are immune to anything that cause petrification, and electric damage.
Stone Breaking Bite: No matter the shape of their mouth or head for that matter, gargoyles bite is strong enough to bite though stone.
Strone Sleep: When gargoyles sleep their bodies change to look like then are made of work rock like the kind around them, if for whatever reason there is no kind of rock around them then they look like work rock from the last time they were around any rocks. During this sleep gargoyles bodies become as hard as bed rock, they also healing at a much faster rate and it isn’t uncommon for a gargoyle to be completely recover from all wounds, poisons, and illnesses after one morning sleep. However, they can’t regrow body parts this way, but if there is no food, water, or even air around them they can stay in this state for years. How long is unknown but that can’t stay like this forever and will die in their sleep if they try.
Rocky Hide: Gargoyles bodies as tough as stone.
Inorganic biology: Gargoyles are almost completely inorganic making them immune to most poisons, toxics, pathogens, and parasites as well as making them resistance to biomancy.
Echolocation: Gargoyles can get around by echolocation.
Night vision: Gargoyles can see in the dark
Scent: Gargoyles can track and recognize beings by their scent.
Element Type: Unlike most mystics gargoyles don’t come in one type of magic but ten. Each type gives them a different breath weapon as well as allowing them to learn different spells.
1. Pyromancy: The magic of fire, gargoyles of this type can breathe a line of fire
2. Geomancy: The magic of earth, gargoyles of this type have sonic scream cone.
3. Aquamancy: The magic of water, gargoyles of this type have line of water at high speeds.
4. Aeromancy: The magic of wind and air, gargoyles of this type have a high power wind breath as their breath weapon.
5. Metalmancy: The magic of metal, gargoyles of this type have a cone of neurotoxic gas a breath weapon.
6. Electromancy: The magic of electricity, gargoyles of type have a line of lighting as a breath weapon.
7. Cryomancy: The magic of ice, gargoyles of this type have a line of frost breath.
8. Biomancy: The magic of life, gargoyles of this type can spit a line of acid strong enough leather armor.
9. Umbramancy: The magic of darkness, gargoyles of this type have a line of shadow that drains health and energy of those that touch it.
10. Luxomancy: The magic of light, gargoyles of this type have a laser beam as a breath weapon.
Tail Weapons: Gargoyles have many types of tail weapons each with their own way to deal death.
1. Blade tail: This tail has a strong blade at the end that can cut like a sword.
2. Spike tail: A set of strong spikes on this one will make quick work of those it hit.
3. Strong tail: A muscular tail that can break bones with a hit.
4. Stinger: A venomous stinger is on the end of this tail.
5. Quill thrower: Lines of quills waiting to be throw are found on this tail.
6. Mace tail: Ending in a round spike cover bone this tail weapon often kills easily.
7. Tentacle tail: A long prehensile tail that can stretch to tire up enemies.
8. Claw tail: Ending in a claw hand this tail is as good as another arm.
9. Head tail: An extra head on this tail adds another and breath weapon use.
10. Eye tail: This tail ends with a large eye that can shoot beam of force.
11. Whip tail: A prehensile tail that can cut through the air like a whip.
12. Constrictor tail: Long and muscular this prehensile tail can squeeze the life out of you.
13. Fan tail: With the fan shape fin at the end of this a strong gust of wing by cause with one swing.
14. Element tail: The tip if this tail ends in the same type of energy that powers the creatures, allowing it to throw balls of this energy from its tail
15. Quake tail: A beaver like tail that causes small quakes in what it hits.
16. Sucker tail: A powerful sucker ends this tail allowing its owner to stand on it or hold to others.
17. Ax tail: With ax like bone on the end of this it ready to give the chop.
18. Hammer tail: Its always hammer time thanks to the bone that ends this tail.
19. Tuft tail: This tail may not look like much with the tuft of fur that ends, but thanks to the pheromone making glands under the fur it can send you running from the smell or to it.
20. Pincer tail: A powerful pincer waits to grab prey on this tail.
Claws: Gargoyles have a many types of claws, each dealing a different type of damage.
1. Barb claws: These hook shape claws pull into flesh to take some with it.
2. Blade claws: Like knives these claws deal slashing damage
3. Needle claws: These thin claws inject venom when use.
4. Ripping claws: With one strikes limbs and flesh comes right off but not cleanly.
Gargoyle Culture
If you were to find gargoyles own their own you may have a hard time realizing they were sapient beings. This because gargoyles rarely build anything at all including tools, mostly because they have little need to thanks their naturel abilities. However gargoyles are rarely found on their own, they are almost always found living in towns and cities of other races. Either as secret inhabitants that take what or need while trying to remain unknown, or as guardians living in small tribes protecting important areas for food, board, and luxury goods. There are some cases where gargoyles do live just like any other citizen but these are rare. When ask why these they prefer to live like this gargoyles tale story about how they believe there kind were made and for what reason. According to this tale a powerful mage wanted to increase the defense of their castle hired countless dwarf artisan to carve statues from special stone from Tartarus. The mage then bath the statues with dragon blood and demon ichor while chanting words of power from they learn from celestials, and from the statues the first gargoyles were born. Whether this story is true is unknown but the gargoyles seem to think which why their religions teach it is their purpose to guard.
