Actually,

they’re sort of exes in the AU, if you can even call it that. They had a friends-with-benefits situation for a while and it was supposed to stay casual. No labels, no commitment, nothing serious. But over time Mystery started developing actual feelings, while Baby never really saw it as anything more than physical.

I headcanon Baby as aro, so even though he genuinely cared about Mystery, he couldn’t return those feelings in a romantic way. Eventually they ended things because Mystery realized he wanted more from the relationship and Baby just wasn’t able to give him that.
