In Babylon, the scene in which Ruth and Nellie film the first sound picture for Kinoscope was inspired by The Wild Party. Ruth Adler was inspired by Dorothy Arzner, the first woman to direct a sound picture, inventor of the boom mic, and survivor the mass layoffs of female filmmakers and the only woman director remaining in Hollywood during the 1930s.
