I'm not the biggest fan of zombie horror, but I did see one this week that i liked a lot: Overlord (2018, Julius Avery). I love a good period horror film, and this one is set in German-occupied France during WWII. A company of GIs are tasked with blowing up a tower in preparation for the Allies to invade, and on this mission they discover some very gruesome and effective tests being carried out by Nazi scientists. Jovan Adepo is very likeable as the main protagonist Boyce. Mathilde Ollivier is fantastic as Chloe, the bad-ass French woman who takes in the GIs and helps them with their mission. Pilou Asbæk is clearly having a blast playing the evil Captain Wafner (which is really his brand, isn't it? Cheerful evil? It works for him!)

I'm of two minds about some of the casting. On the one hand, it's refreshing to see a Black protagonist in WWII film that isn't primarily about how badly Black GIs were treated: see Mudbound (2017) and Red Tails (2012). On the other, this is an integrated company with a Black commanding officer--also Jacob Anderson in a blink-and-you'll-miss-him appearance--and neither the white GIs nor the Nazis have anything to say about that. That said, there were no Nazi scientists making super-soldiers out of reanimated French people either, so I think we can maybe suspend disbelief regarding the racial dynamics!

This is a GORY movie. I think that should go without saying given zombies and WWII, but I'm going to say it anyway. If you've always thought Saving Private Ryan would have been better with zombies, you are right, and this movie is for you!
