Just got back from babysitting 2 hours ago. Wow. In 2 hours, The Kid fed the 5lbs Chihuahua pizza, I watched 1 hour of nursery rhymes, and the kid farted on me. Best. Night. Ever.

Babysitting Violet recap!!!

We started off the evening by playing on the couch. She insisted on playing with her wipes container instead of her real toys, but I finally got her to play with some noisemakers and tupperware (still, not really real toys) and finally her teddy bear. We played flying baby and spun around on the kitchen floor, both of which made her laugh a lot. We ate some snacks too. She is the queen of phone stealing, and has figured out that she is looking at herself in the photo mirror setting. I have 3 videos of her looking at herself in my phone, saying hi, and waving at herself.

We spent a lot of time playing. I think she knows that I am willing to let her look at and play with things her mom would take away. I don't let her play with anything harmful, but I definitely let her smoosh some cocktail crackers (inside their package) because it wasn't harmful to her, and they were just crackers! I ate them later on!

She didn’t take a nap before I came over, so I knew she was sleepy as we got closer to her bedtime. I slowly started turning the lights off and put her noisy toys away. We read a book and then she crawled away and retrieved her nook. When I said “good job! You found it!” she clapped her hands and crawled back to climb all over me. It was so cute!

Then we went to change out of her play clothes and into her jammies. When I took her pants off of her she giggled and grabbed her toes and seemed genuinely happy. However, she fussed a bit when I pulled her sweater off her arms and over her head (her mother later reported that she does not like this). Last time I was her sitter I was really nervous about bedtime (having never really taken care of a baby before) and that probably upset her, so this time we took it really slowly. I picked her up and we looked at her clothes & books between removing each layer of clothing after the sweater, changing her diaper, and putting her jammies on (footie jammies with bears!) just to make it less stressful. I gave her lots of hugs and kisses and told her how brave and strong she was. Very few tears :) Then she had her bottle, which she took quickly, making cute sounds and holding her face with her hands. Then I put her in her swaddle and she didn’t fuss much at all! We read Goodnight Moon, then her eyelids started to droop and she blinked a lot. Right before she fell asleep she reached out with her little baby hand and put it on my cheek, rubbing her thumb back and forth. I rocked her slowly and held her in my arms for a while, her hand still on my cheek as she slept. When she started to twist and turn, I put her in her crib and she passed out with her buns in the air.

She didn’t made a peep after I put her down. I checked on her a few times and she looked so cozy, making little sleepy sounds and wiggling every so often. Every time I've changed her clothes or taken a layer of her clothing off, she's so warm! A regular heat machine. I want to take a nap with her, she’s such a little lover. I love her so so so much!

Anyway, her parents didn't come home for about 3 hours after she fell asleep, so I watched a bunch of American Horror Story, ate some snacks and a popsicle, then drank some Cabernet. Thanks, Kara and Jon! I'll hang with Violet any time :)
