If you have creative projects online (anywhere), BACK! THEM! UP!!! ESPECIALLY IF THEY CONTAIN MATURE CONTENT!

If your backup is in the cloud, MAKE ANOTHER BACKUP. A PHYSICAL ONE. Get an SD card, a flash drive, an external hard drive, a CD, a floppy... Hell, print it out and stick it in a binder under your bed, but BACK IT UP SOMEWHERE THAT CORPORATIONS WON'T BE ABLE TO GET IT. If you worked really hard on something, the last thing you'd want is for some company or government to suddenly delete or block you from accessing your content because of what they have magically decided is morally right or wrong.

Things are getting really dicey out there for creatives and their work. Please take care of yourselves and your art.

How do you back up your writing, may I ask?

Hello! Good question! As a baby gen x or old millennial, I grew up in a time when your files could die so so so easily. So easily. So I have to admit I have a lot of failsafes out of sheer paranoia.

Firstly, I have my scrivener files saved locally on my laptop and secondly I also have them automatically backed up to Dropbox.

For fanfic that is all on ao3 I have copies in Google docs too, usually because I get it beta’d through gdocs… I should download them as pdfs too but I haven’t yet.

My other system with gdoc files is to email them to myself, in the body of the email.

Oh and finally, periodically I save all my stuff (photos, files, stories) to a separate hard drive, but I’ve been a bit slack with that - I haven’t done it for about six months, so this is a timely reminder to do that!

You never want to know the pain of losing lots of work to a computer crash. Or theft.

Back your shit up. Multiple places. The cloud is good. So are USB drives. Even sticking it as a bunch of attachments in a draft in your email is viable.

Mass Effect Relay Nitpicking - Take 3

Previously, I’ve outlined some tactical blunders I see in the relay network, including how the Reapers failed to use it to their advantage.

Specifically, they did not immediately cut off all relay use except their own.

EXCEPT.

In Mass Effect, Vigil explicitly states that they did (I’m replaying the games rn). It was their main tactic.

So why did they not do this in Mass Effect 3?

I would guess because the Citadel is the key to it, which in Mass Effect 3 has been taken offline by the Protheans. In which case:
