Since we know very little about Koyomi, I made up a bunch of headcanons about her. I like to think she's a bubbly, enthusiastic girl with a supportive best friend because female friendships are fun to write about. And I gave her an interest in shojo manga because why not? Plus I like to imagine that Reki reads all her manga and pretends not to

Miya being a jerk to people is part of his defense mechanism and I think that would have made it a bit hard for him and Koyomi to get along at first, but they'd end up becoming good friends once they discovered some common ground

IIRC The design on Miya's board is based on a puzzle game, but I haven't been able to find a name for it, so I made one up

I think Miya's parents are good people, but there are things he feels he can't share with them, so he turns to other parental substitutes. Koyomi likewise has a good family who cares for her, but there are also things she feels she can't share with them

Chapter eight is my favorite chapter because writing Koyomi and Miya as siblings who pester their older brothers and think they know better than them was super fun

I wrote the entirety of chapter thirteen while listening to Stereopony's "I Do It". Actually, the bulk of this fic was written while listening to Stereopony. Their music fits the vibe for my headcanons for Koyomi and I highly recommend them

Strawberry Milkshake takes place some time after Hearts in Limbo, so there's a secondary storyline involving Reki and Langa in Strawberry Milkshake
